Reggie Lambe On World Cup Hopes And More
Reggie Lambe believes Bermuda can spring surprises as they chase a historic first World Cup appearance.
The 34-year-old midfielder holds a national record with 61 caps and played a key role in Bermuda’s Concacaf Gold Cup debut in 2019.
Lambe remains a vital presence, having scored a dramatic late winner against Cuba in June to push Bermuda into the third round of World Cup qualifying.
“In terms of Bermuda, it is one of the biggest goals,” Lambe told www.Fifa.com. “I didn’t really wrap my head around the meaning of it directly after the game.”
Bermuda face Jamaica, Curaçao, and Trinidad and Tobago in group B, with matches from September to November. Group winners qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup, while the two best runners-up enter a play-off.
“We have to play our game and realise Jamaica’s strengths and look at their weaknesses as well and look at areas we can exploit against them,” Lambe said.
“Getting a result against them in the first game will give us a lot of confidence. That first game is crucial and will determine how the rest of the games go for us.”
Despite being underdogs, Lambe is confident in Bermuda’s potential.
“I think a lot of countries will be shocked about how well we can perform if we do reach the levels that we believe that we can reach,” he said.
“We’re definitely confident, but we also know that we are the underdogs and that we have big countries to go up against.”
On the dream of World Cup qualification, Lambe added: “I don’t think that we would even know what it would mean.
“The World Cup is achievable from our perspective.”
