BRSC: “Better Late Than Never / Slow Down”
As part of its ongoing efforts to promote road safety, the Bermuda Road Safety Council [BRSC] is urging all motorists and riders to slow down and drive responsibly this November under the campaign theme, “Better Late Than Never / Slow Down.”
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Road Safety Council [BRSC] extends its sincerest condolences to the families and friends of those who have recently lost their lives in road traffic collisions. The Council recognizes the profound impact these incidents have on the community and reaffirms its commitment to promoting safer driving practices across Bermuda.
“As part of its ongoing efforts to promote road safety, the BRSC is urging all motorists and riders to slow down and drive responsibly this November, under the monthly campaign theme: ‘Better Late Than Never / Slow Down.’
“Speeding remains one of the leading causes of road crashes on our island, significantly increasing the likelihood and severity of accidents. Driving above the speed limit reduces a driver’s ability to react to sudden hazards, increases stopping distance, and magnifies the impact of collisions—putting not only the driver but every road user at risk.
“Statistics show that even a small increase in speed can have serious consequences. A vehicle traveling just 10% faster than the speed limit can increase stopping distance by several meters, while the force of impact in a crash rises exponentially with speed, making injuries more severe and fatalities more likely.
“The BRSC urges all drivers and riders to take proactive steps to make Bermuda’s roads safer:
- Observe speed limits and adjust speed according to road and weather conditions.
- Avoid distractions such as mobile devices while driving.
- Maintain safe following distances to allow enough time to react to unexpected events.
- Be patient and courteous, remembering that arriving safely is more important than arriving quickly.
“Speeding is not just a personal risk—it endangers every other person on the road. This November, we encourage everyone to embrace our campaign slogan: Better Late Than Never / Slow Down. A few extra minutes on the road is far better than a lifetime of regret caused by preventable accidents.
“The Bermuda Road Safety Council remains committed to promoting safer driving behaviours and reducing road traffic incidents across the island. Together, we can make Bermuda’s roads safer for everyone.
“Cautious Driver = Safer Roads = Safer Bermuda.”
