Bermudian MaLahku Selassie has earned the position of captain with Tradewinds Luxury Charters.

A spokesperson said, “22-year-old Bermudian MaLahku Selassie has officially landed a captain position with Tradewinds Luxury Charters, a premier international yachting company with global operations including Belize, the British Virgin Islands, French Polynesia, Europe and across the Mediterranean.

“MaLahku will begin his new role in St. Maarten this week, where he will complete a three-week training program before captaining a range of luxury yachts at various destinations. His appointment marks a significant milestone for one of Bermuda’s youngest professional sailors and continues the island’s proud maritime legacy.

“Prior to joining Tradewinds, MaLahku served as a captain at Sail Bermuda and a sailing instructor with Endeavour, where he mentored young Bermudians through hands-on sailing experiences. In 2024, he ran the May 24th Marathon Derby for the first time to raise funds for Endeavour, helping to make sailing more accessible for disadvantaged youth across the island.

“An accomplished diver, MaLahku is a certified PADI Dive Instructor. He earned his International Divemaster certification in Honduras, and was later invited to remain and complete his instructor course, making him one of Bermuda’s youngest certified senior dive professionals.”

His mother, Dr. Dana Selassie, said, “MaLahku has always had a passion for adventure and seeing the world. From surfing in Portugal and skiing in Switzerland, to Captaining an instructional yacht in the BVI where teenagers spent several weeks learning to sail, he has always carried a spirit of giving and living life to the fullest. He comes from a proud line of sailors, the Lambert family, and it is beautiful to see him continue that legacy in his own way.”

The spokesperson said, “Follow his journey on Instagram.”

This young got his start in the Endeavour Program. Is this the same Endeavour Programe that the America’s Cup had so much to do with the formation of? Is this the America’s Cup that the PLP did it’s very best to downplay saying that it was of no benefit to anyone in Bermuda.

It was nothing but a rich white guys boat race. That America’s Cup?
