Radar system mentioned on the news this evening. Seems very lame excuse. Government paid several million dollars some years ago to ‘upgrade’ the radar instead of investing in a new system. Seems like it is down about 15% of the time.
Maybe they do not understand that farmers, fishermen and several other who work outside depend on info from the radar to plan their day.
Is it time to install a totally new system?
Bermuda is nearly $4 billion in current account debt (not to mention billions more in unfunded pension liabilities) and as I understand matters the Minister of Finance has suspended payments into the sinking fund.
Can Bermuda afford to purchase a new radar system is the real question.
The real question is, where did the several million they spent to fix the problem go?
Install newer, smarter decision-makers first.
Took the words right out of my Dopler ….
Same thing pple are saying about new cellphone tower in St. David,s. PLP asks for input yet do not consider it because their minds are made up and contracts already signed.
The famous saying goes ” Bermuda love to complain.. I mean drink than complain! ” lol All the technology available online we crying over one radar! Oh woe is me I can’t look up accu weather or the hundreds of other websites!
Sure there are other online sites for weather information but none offer the up close accuracy of the BWS radar. As an example , one of the alternate sites they go to when the local doppler is down will regularly show us under rain when we’re not and the time loop is useless.
That pole on Hermitage Road that fell is clearly rotten at its base. All poles should have an inspection schedule and maximum life. Nothing to do with trees or something hitting it. That is Belco not performing basic pole inspections to save money, but the customers have to suffer.
