Bermuda Teams Begin Squash Campaigns

The Bermuda men’s team made a strong start to the Caribbean Area Squash Association’s Senior Championships in Guyana.

They beat Trinidad and Tobago 12-0, with Taylor Carrick defeating Luc Davis 11-5, 11-5, 11-5, Noah Browne beating Joel Augustine 11-3, 11-5, 11-4, Anaya Smith triumphing over Ross D’Juran 11-4, 11-6, 11-6, and D’vario Thompson defeating Peter Pirtheesingh 11-7, 11-6, 11-5.

The men’s veterans beat the Cayman Islands 9-0. Stephen Smith [11-1, 11-2, 11-4], Hadleigh Farrer [11-3, 11-6, 11-5], and Peter Drury [11-5, 11-8, 11-1] all won their matches.

However, they faced a tougher second match against Barbados, going down 9-3.

Farrer pulled back points for Bermuda with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Mark Gilkes [11-9, 8-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-8].

The Bermuda women’s team, fielding only three players, were defeated 20-1 by Guyana

Bermuda’s point was earned by Melina Turk, who won a set against Mary Fung-A-Fat, ultimately losing 11-9, 6-11, 11-8, 11-7.

Abigail Brewer lost 3-0 to Ashley Khalil, and Alex Furtado lost 3-0 to Kirsten Gomes.

They then faced Barbados, suffering a 15-0 defeat.

Turk lost 3-0 to Megan Best, Brewer fell 3-0 to Amanda Haywood, and Furtado was defeated 3-0 to Eboni Atherley.
