MEF Donates $3K To Jamaican Relief Fund
MEF Ltd has donated $3,000 to the Jamaican Hurricane Relief Fund following Hurricane Melissa, raised through a special Jamaican-themed brunch at Fourways Inn.
A spokesperson said, “MEF Ltd – otherwise known as The Little Venice Group [LVG] – announced it made a donation of $3,000 to the Jamaican Hurricane Relief Fund following the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa.
“This donation was made possible by a special event held last month on Sunday, November 16th, when Fourways Inn hosted a roasting and sushi brunch with the International Corner featuring ‘A Taste of Jamaica.’”
Deborah Gardener, who works in the MEF accounts department and hails from Jamaica, alongside General Manager of Fourways Inn Andy Detzer:
General Manager of Fourways Andy Detzer said, “We felt compelled to do something to help after such terrible devastation. Our weekly Sunday brunch that features a different country from around the world was the perfect opportunity. Guests had a chance to sample some of Jamaica’s amazing cuisine whilst a percentage of sales that day went towards relief efforts.”
The spokesperson said, “Guests enjoyed the usual brunch fare along with a wide array of Jamaican delicacies, including coconut curried mussels, jerk spiced chicken, mahi mahi escovitch, oxtail stew, beef patties, fried plantains, curried goat, sweet potato pudding, raspberry and rum cake, Jamaican banana bread, and toto cake.
“Through a contribution of 10% of food and beverage sales, along with optional guest tips, the event successfully raised $1,536. The Little Venice Group matched this amount, resulting in a total donation of $3,000 towards hurricane relief efforts in Jamaica. The donation was made to The American Friends of Jamaica Relief Fund, which has also pledged to match $1,000,000. More information can be found at theafj.org.
