Bermuda Youth Basketball Hits Midseason
The 2025-26 BYB League, operated by Bermuda Youth Basketball, has reached the midpoint of a highly competitive youth basketball season, with teams starting to separate themselves in the standings.
A spokesperson said, “Played on Saturday afternoons starting at 4:30 p.m. at MSA Gymnasium, the league runs from October through April and continues to deliver high-level competition and compelling storylines as playoff seeding begins to take shape.
BYB Mambas
“The defending BYB League champion Mambas have stumbled out the gate in their title defense, but the flashes of championship pedigree are impossible to ignore. At times, the Mambas have looked every bit the team that lifted the trophy last season. Powered by BYB League leading scorer Ajani Carey [22 PPG] and anchored inside by Anson Robinson, the league leader in rebounds [12.3 RPG] and blocks [1.9 BPG], this team is never out of a game. Still, at 2- 5, the margin for error has evaporated. If the Mambas want to repeat, the sense of urgency has to match the talent on the roster.
BYB Cobras
“The Cobras under the direction of Coach Derrick Hendrickson, have exploded out of the gate, delivering the best start in BYB League history. Their stunning seven-game winning streak has turned heads across the league, leaving opposing coaches searching for answers. Led by their relentless point guard Troy Washington Jr [15.4 PPG], paint- dominating forward Max Kimberly [11.6 PPG, 11.4 RPG], and defensive menace Quinton Husband [13 PPG, 2 SPG], The Cobras are built to overwhelm opponents on both ends of the floor. They can score in waves, punish teams on the glass, and lock down offenses with an aggressive, no- breathing- room defensive style. This is pure dominance. At 7- 0, the Cobras are undefeated and setting the tone for the entire league.
BYB Bulldogs
“The Bulldogs entered the 2025-26 BYB League season with unfinished business. Last year’s BYB League finalist have their sights set firmly on another deep playoff run, and as the second half of the season unfolds, the noise surrounding this team is getter louder. With steady floor leadership from point guard Blake Johnston, explosive play from athletic combo guard Jordon Marsh, and relentless work on the glass by rebounding forward Tre Simmons, The Bulldogs are finding their stride at the right time. After a slow 1- 2 start, they have surged into second place at 4-3, quietly reminding the league that they are very much in the title conversation.
BYB Piranhas
“The Piranhas remain one of the league’s biggest mysteries. Blessed with arguably the two best forwards in the BYB League in Maxwell Lawrence III and Stasio Raynor-Weller, the talent is undeniable, yet the results have not followed. The Piranhas have struggled to find the spark needed to ignite their season and consistently play to the level their roster suggests. With those forwards complemented by defensive-minded point guard Jahlunde Wilson-Johnston and three-point sharpshooter Emmanuel Madera-Blanco, this is a team that should be posting a far better record than 1- 6. For now, the question is not about ability, it is about when, or if, it all comes together.
