Sophie Weikl Wins Gold Medal In Florida
Sophie Weikl claimed a gold medal in the beach volleyball doubles event at the recent Florida Beach Coalition Club vs Club Championship in Pompano Beach.
Weikl, representing RPS Academies — a sports school in Fort St Lucie — and her doubles partner produced superb performances, winning several matches on their way to the final.
“It was pretty windy during the tournament and it got really difficult at times, but we won,” Weikl told Bernews.
The 16-year-old, a former Mount Saint Agnes Academy student, added: “I was really happy we managed to place so well and overcome the challenges and emotional ups and downs during the games. We played really well.”
Weikl has also represented the Bermuda national beach volleyball team.
