‘A Personal Ecology’ Exhibition Opens March 6
Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art will present ‘A Personal Ecology’, an immersive mixed-media exhibition by Louisa Bermingham curated by Jasmine Lee, from March 6 to April 25.
A spokesperson said, “Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art is pleased to present A Personal Ecology, an upcoming exhibition by artist Louisa Bermingham, opening Friday, March 6, 2026, in the Rick Faries Gallery. Curated by Jasmine Lee, Curator of Contemporary Art, the exhibition will run through April 25, 2026.
“The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception on Friday, March 6 from 5:30 – 7pm. An Artist Talk with Louisa Bermingham will take place on Tuesday, March 17 from 5:30–7pm, offering visitors an opportunity to hear directly from the artist about her work and creative process.
“A Personal Ecology presents a collection of paintings within an expanded installation that incorporates driftwood, suspended branches, shelves, and handmade objects including ceramics, sewn forms, and decorative ephemera. These elements are arranged throughout the gallery to create a spatial relationships that explore ideas of interconnectedness, impermanence, and the quiet accumulation of meaning through everyday observation.
“Together, the works form what Bermingham describes as “a personal ecology”- an environment shaped by care, reflection, and the artist’s attentiveness to the natural and emotional landscapes encountered in daily life.”
Bermingham explains, “My work emerges from my journey through life, shaped by what I encounter, Sometimes it takes the form of direct observation – impressions gathered as I move through my community. At other times, it becomes an emotional investigation of personal experience, translated through visual references such as plants, places, and collected objects.”
The spokesperson said, “In her recent work, Bermingham paints personally meaningful symbols onto pots and vessels filled with Botanicals. These elements often appear against patterned backgrounds and alongside recurring motifs, creating layered compositions that reflect her connection to Bermudian culture. The imagery references specific places and memories, at times recalling quiet, familiar memories, or spaces, and at others addressing difficult personal experiences.
“A Personal Ecology invites viewers to reflect on how memory, place, and everyday objects shape our surroundings and inner lives. Visitors are encouraged to experience the exhibition, to consider each object, element, scene as contributing to a broader narrative about connection, memory, and the relationship between people and the natural world.
