Berkeley Drama Department To Present Cinderella
The Berkeley Institute Drama Department will present Cinderella: Once Upon My Time, which is described as a “bold and poetic reimagining of the beloved fairytale, brought to life by an extraordinary cast of student performers whose passion, courage, and artistry promise to leave audiences inspired.”
A spokesperson said, “Leading the production are standout talents Callahj Simmons as Cinderella and Theodore Watkins as the Prince, alongside Ja’leiyah Johnston as the Stepmother. Their performances anchor a story of resilience, transformation, and self-discovery, supported by a dynamic cast of principal characters who bring depth and energy to every moment on stage. Asha Peets and Sara Williams shine as the Stepsisters, while Ronan Carreon and Arhyiah Tatem bring regal presence to the King and Queen. Adding a sense of intrigue, Aaron Lugo delivers a performance that keeps audiences curious and engaged, offering an unexpected dimension to the unfolding story.
“At the heart of Cinderella’s journey are the Fairy Godmothers, Adriana Harvey and Keegan Dyer, whose beauty, grace, and magic guide her path with warmth and wonder, reminding audiences that hope and transformation are always within reach.
“This production celebrates both excellence and growth, marking a final curtain call for dedicated senior performers Callahj Simmons, Ja’leiyah Johnston, Aaron Lugo, and Ronan Carreon, while also welcoming emerging young talent, many of whom will take the stage for the very first time with courage and brilliance. Through vibrant ensemble storytelling and a spirit of collaboration, every student plays a vital role in bringing this story to life, reflecting the strength and unity of The Berkeley’s Theatre Arts Program.”
“This is more than a performance, it’s a celebration of our students’ journey,” said director Joelle Williams. “Each performer, whether stepping on stage for the first time or taking their final bow, represents the future of the arts.”
The spokesperson said, “Audiences can expect a moving theatrical experience filled with powerful storytelling, striking visuals, and heartfelt performances that celebrate both individual talent and collective achievement.
