Four Records Set At Middle School Champs

Four records were broken on the opening day of the Bermuda School Sports Federation Middle School Track and Field Championships at the Flora Duffy South Field Stadium.

Mount Saint Agnes Academy athlete Xander Romeo set the first record in the Over 13 boys discus with a throw of 36.00 meters. Romeo later broke the Over 13 shot put record with a distance of 15.35 meters, surpassing the previous mark of 13.79 meters held by Lateef Trott.

In the turbo javelin, Whitney Institute’s Charlie Simons set a new Under 12 boys record with a winning throw of 27.05 meters.

In the Under 12 girls turbo javelin, the previous record of 17.70 meters was surpassed twice. Bermuda High School athlete Myla Cornish won the event with a record throw of 26.48 meters, while Saltus Grammar School’s Charlotte Murdoch-Smith placed second with 20.11 meters, also exceeding the former mark.

Saltus Grammar School leads the overall standings with 136 points, narrowly ahead of Warwick Academy on 135.33 points. The Whitney Institute is third with 108 points.

In the girls division, Bermuda High School leads with 84 points, followed by Saltus Grammar School with 66.50 points and Warwick Academy with 49 points.

In the boys division, the Whitney Institute leads with 89 points, ahead of Warwick Academy on 86.33 points and Saltus Grammar School on 69.50 points.
