Netball: Chasers, Somerset, Stars & Zebras Win

Netball Bermuda began its Summer League season with four matches split between the Coed and Women’s Divisions.

In the Coed Division, the Storm Chasers defeated the Allshores Ballers 28-17. Antione Williams scored 17 goals for the Storm Chasers and was named Attacker of the Match. Inshan-Nae Smith scored seven goals and Selah Tuzo scored four for the winners, while Amali Powell was named Most Valuable Player and Debre Evans was named Defender of the Match. For the Allshores Ballers, Sheldon Bahadosingh scored 11 goals, Nikita Hunt scored four, and Miesha Greaves scored two. Keedai Astwood, Zakiyah Durham, and Micah Pond received individual awards for the Ballers.

Also in the Coed Division, Somerset defeated RenRe 11-10. Makeda Burrows scored six goals and earned Most Valuable Player honors for Somerset, while Ramiah Brangman scored five goals. Simeon Burrows and Teataphi Pringle were also recognized for their performances. Coriah Simmons scored seven goals and Krishay Tucker scored three for RenRe. Brighton Swan was named Most Valuable Player for RenRe, and Taylor Washington was named the team’s best defender.

In the Women’s Division, the Lady Stars earned a 26-18 victory over the Netball Bermuda Under 21 Academy. Marissa Brangman scored 13 goals for the Lady Stars, and K’xiyae Gibbons scored 10 goals to win the Attacker award. Sioma Rudo scored two goals and Kim Thompson scored one for the Lady Stars. Zindzi Edmead won both the MVP and Defender awards. For the Netball Bermuda Under 21 Academy, Alexia Pascall scored 13 goals, Jamir Hatherley scored four, and E’Rynn Paynter scored one. Ja’miyah Johnston and Keyahnee Burgess received individual recognition for the Academy.

The PHC Lady Zebras defeated Tropical Storm 22-14 to conclude the opening round. Sonja Townsend scored 15 goals for the Lady Zebras, winning both the MVP and Attacker of the Match awards. Tyra Simmons scored seven goals and Sideya Dill led the defense for PHC. For Tropical Storm, Selah Tuzo scored six goals. Honor White, Gabriella Babon, and Journee Belboda won the individual awards for Tropical Storm.
