Sinclair Packwood Race On Bermuda Day

May 21, 2026 | 0 Comments

The Bermuda Bicycle Association is preparing for the return of the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race and SPMR Youth Classic on Friday, May 22, 2026, as part of Bermuda Day celebrations alongside the Bermuda Half Marathon Derby and Bermuda Day Parade.

A spokesperson said, “The cycling races begin at 8:20am and form part of the wider Bermuda Day festivities alongside the Bermuda Half Marathon Derby and Bermuda Day Parade, events that together showcase Bermuda’s sporting excellence, culture, heritage, and community pride.

“The Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race honours the legacy of Bermudian cyclist Sinclair Packwood and has become one of the most exciting events on the local cycling calendar. Known as the fastest and shortest road race of the season, the event combines tactical racing with high-speed finishes into Hamilton.

“The SPMR Youth Classic for riders aged 9–14 will start from Red Hole in Paget, while the Open and Junior categories will race from Somerset to Hamilton.

“Six-time winner Dominique Mayho said the unique atmosphere of Bermuda Day racing continues to draw him back to the event year after year.”

He said, “The atmosphere of the race keeps me coming back. There’s no race like it locally. When I first started cycling as a junior, to win the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race became a huge goal of mine. The years I spent overseas racing I would always try to watch the livestream and the adrenaline would still be there as if I were racing myself.

“Now I compete to respect the event. I feel my chances of adding to the record this year are slim but I still have a decent sprint so if the race becomes tactical I’ll have a shot.”

A spokesperson added, “The BBA is encouraging the public to come out and support the riders safely. Cyclists will be travelling at very high speeds, particularly as they approach Hamilton, and spectators are asked to use caution when crossing the road and to follow all instructions from police and race marshals.

“Members of the public and tent holders are also reminded to ensure that tent legs, chairs, coolers, and other items do not extend into the roadway for the safety of riders and spectators alike.

“The public is also reminded that roads close at 7:30am to all motorised traffic as part of Bermuda Day event operations.

“Registration for both the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race and SPMR Youth Classic closes at 6:00pm tonight, Thursday, May 21, with no late entries accepted.”
