[Updated] Traffic diversions are in place due to a collision in Southampton this evening.

At just before 11pm this evening [June 3] police spokesperson said, “There has been a serious road traffic collision involving an overturned motorcar on Middle Road just east of the junction with Camp Hill Road, Southampton.

“The roadway is currently blocked and motorists are advised to use South Road to get to their destinations.”

Update June 4, 11.48am: A police spokesperson said, “Inquiries continue after a two-vehicle collision that occurred around 10:30pm Wednesday, 3rd June 2026, along Middle Road in Warwick, near Camp Hill.

“It appears that the two cars involved were being driven in opposite directions along Middle Road, when the car travelling in the westbound lane collided with the car travelling in the eastbound lane. The westbound car then collided with a wall and overturned.

“Shortly after that, the male driver of the westbound car fled the scene on foot. Police officers continue their efforts to locate this individual and recommend that he turn himself in at the earliest opportunity.

“The driver of the other car, understood to be a 34-year-old Warwick man, was apparently unhurt.

“Both vehicles were damaged, with traffic disruption for motorists in the immediate area at the time lasting approximately one and a half hours while the scene was processed.

“The Bermuda Police Service is appreciative of the information already received regarding this collision and encourages any additional witnesses to call Constable Stephen Allen on 211 or email sallen@bps.bm as soon as possible.”

  1. Are we learning anything says:

From these crashes? We are yet to be tolf what is causing them so we can govern our own behaviour.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

The style of cars is virtually the same these days. All of them are a class generally known as crossover SUVs. Miniature SUVs.

All of them have a higher CG than a regular car. Combine that with poor driving skills, narrow roads, walls, rocks that stick out, utility poles in the road, speed, inattention and this is what you get. Flippy cars.

    • Transparency says:

The government is not being as transparent as they are supposed to be when they used to release the cause of these accidents. Let’s just say they have increased since the Covid shots.

  2. christine says:

Personally I think it has something to do withy the new extra bright headlights. Sometimes you get absolutely blinded by them. Something really needs to be done about them for sure.

    • Bingo! says:

      YES!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Longtail says:

I don’t think that would cause someone to flee the scene though. More likely for a legal reason…?

    • Hard to Drive says:

That is it!!! Between that and the monster potholes is a recipe for disaster

  3. Me says:

Two cars crash, one is flipped over. How are the drivers? One is unhurt and the other was well enough to run away.

Almost all the deaths on our roads are on two wheels. The one car per household law needs to be removed. It would save so many lives.

    • MADDOG says:

Remove the one car rule??? Do you drive?? The traffic is already backed up to a point where we can hardly move or get out of a gate….add even more vehicles we will be at a complete stand still. Perhaps if some people on bikes would not ride so STUPIDLY and FAST, weaving in and out of traffic passing on the inside and then flying down the 3rd lane, tailing cars within an inch of their back wheel, running stop lights, blowing through pedestrian crossings… that perhaps might help reduce the number of deaths. Whilst I can appreciate and have empathy for the bikes particularly now with the pot holes….if we all slowed down, stopped riding so foolishly, and followed the rules of the road we might all get home alive.

      • Joe Bloggs says:

“and followed the rules of the road”

There are no “rules” any more, merely suggestions that are largely ignored.

      • Toodle-oo says:

        Completely agree with you .
Some people must think we’ve got the road systems and space of the US !

  4. Hilarious says:

So, has BPS not checked the vehicle registration on the car whose driver ran away?

  5. Triangle Drifter says:

Sooo, the police are seeking the driver who ran away are they???

Might they check the records at TCD to find the owner of the car? The driver perhaps? The driver is a household member of the owner maybe?

Whoever the driver was, there was no driver at the scene when the police arrived. Oh Dear! Kinda like the situation at the bottom of Coral Beach hill when another driverless car went off the road. The owner was there but not in the car and he did not know who was driving. Strange situations.
