BPSU Presents Ten Education Awards

Sarine Babb, Jaela Medeiros-Symonds, Sascha Burchall, Nahla Burgess, Kimura Cole, Latarie Doers-Bowen, Kenya Smith-Woodley, Sekai Tatem, Hailey Trott and Isis Tucker have all earned education awards from the Bermuda Public Services Union [BPSU].

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Public Services Union [BPSU] proudly reflects on the success of its 34th Annual Education Awards Ceremony, held on Thursday, July 16, 2026. Under the leadership of President Sis. Nadine B. Henry, General Secretary Bro. Kevin Grant, and Education Committee Chair Bro. Vernon Wears Jr., the event once again underscored the Union’s commitment to investing in the educational aspirations of its members and their families.

“Since the inception of the Education Awards, the BPSU has awarded over $800,000 in support of academic pursuits. This has been an enduring testament to the Union’s belief in the transformative power of education.

“This year, the Union presents ten [10] awards: two [2] local/online awards valued at $1,500 each, and eight [8] overseas awards valued at $3,500 each.

“This year’s recipients represent a diverse range of academic disciplines and career ambitions. The BPSU is honoured to congratulate the following awardees:

Local/Online Awards [$1,500]:

  • Sarine Babb – University of Law, Moorgate, London [Law]
  • Jaela Medeiros-Symonds – Bermuda College [Nursing]

Overseas Awards [$3,500]:

  • Sascha Burchall – Sheridan College [Kinesiology and Health Promotion]
  • Nahla Burgess – Howard University [Architecture]
  • Kimura Cole – St. George’s University [Nursing]
  • Latarie Doers-Bowen – North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University [Elementary Education & Management]
  • Kenya Smith-Woodley – Nottingham Trent University/ Ewha Womans University [Animation]
  • Sekai Tatem – Trent University [Social Work]
  • Hailey Trott – Dalhousie University [Health Promotion]
  • Isis Tucker – Wilfrid Laurier University [Business Administration]
