Masterworks To Present Teen Art Exhibition

Masterworks Museum will showcase the final sculptures created by teenagers in its two-week ‘Sculpture in Practice’ summer intensive at a free public exhibition on Friday.

A spokesperson said, “After two weeks of experimentation, collaboration, and creative exploration, Masterworks Museum and course leader Katarina Hoskins are proud to present the final works from Sculpture in Practice: A Summer Intensive for Teens. This exhibition celebrates the creativity, dedication, and achievements of emerging young artists aged 13–19.

“The exhibition will take place on Friday, July 24, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at LOM, 27 Reid Street, and is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Guests are encouraged to RSVP through the Masterworks Museum website.

“Launched through an open call earlier this summer, Sculpture in Practice was developed by sculptor and course leader Katarina Hoskins in partnership with Masterworks Museum and made possible through the generous support of programme sponsors LOM, Paradise Mobile, and Undercover Tents. Additional thanks to Brendalyn and Ernest Stempel Foundation for providing bursary funding. The intensive introduced students to a wide range of sculptural materials and techniques, encouraging them to think beyond traditional two-dimensional artmaking and explore the possibilities of contemporary sculpture.

“Throughout the programme, participants worked with clay, plaster, alginate, latex, wire, resin, and more. The first week focused on experimentation, allowing students to play freely with unfamiliar materials, embrace mistakes, and develop new ideas. During the second week, each participant transformed those explorations into a final sculptural work that will be unveiled during the exhibition.

“Students also had the opportunity to hear from practising Bermudian artists, including Scott King and Zoë Hedstrom, Phoebe Hughes, James Cooper, and Jahbarri Wilson, who shared insights into their creative practices and professional experiences, providing inspiration and encouragement for the next generation of artists.”

“This showcase represents much more than the end of a course,” said course leader Katarina Hoskins. “It celebrates the willingness of these young artists to take creative risks, learn new skills, and express themselves through sculpture. I am excited to build on the success of this experience by working with Masterworks to offer more workshops for both young artists and adults. This initiative is only the beginning of what’s to come.”

The spokesperson said, “The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to experience the diverse ideas, techniques, and personal voices developed over the course of the intensive, highlighting the creativity and potential of Bermuda’s emerging artists.
