The Progressive Labour Party [PLP] has welcomed the opening of the Palmetto Beach Club at Fairmont Southampton.

“For years, we heard predictions that the Fairmont Southampton would never reopen. We heard that the investment would never happen and that the Government was wrong to work with the developers to get the property back into operation.

“Our Government chose to ignore the critics and remained focused on what was best for Bermuda, doing our part to help restore this iconic property.

“Today, Bermudians are back to work on the property, including at the managerial level, and the first part of the redeveloped resort is now open. Soon the hotel will reopen with opportunities for Bermudians across the tourism industry and we will continue to work to ensure that Bermudians receive the full benefit from its return.”

  1. Hmmm says:

I never heard anyone say it wouldn’t reopen. You heard this for years?…very strange

It was open then it was sold instead of the govt offering incentives to the then incumbents.

It ended up closed , and still is closed, the beach part is open and we have to pay to attend, but won’t be able to pay to attend once the hotel opens unless we pay a large expensive annual membership.

I’ll be happy when the hotel reopens. Probably won’t be this year.
