Safety Appeal After Turtle Entanglement Death
The Bermuda Turtle Project is urging the public to dispose of fishing gear responsibly after a hawksbill turtle died after becoming severely entangled in fishing line and rope.
The Bermuda Turtle Project said, “Today, we responded to the stranding of a hawksbill turtle. Sadly, the turtle was found severely entangled in fishing line and rope. The entanglement was so extensive that it became trapped underwater and drowned. This heartbreaking case is a reminder of the devastating impact that discarded or lost fishing gear can have on marine wildlife. Please dispose of fishing line responsibly and, if possible remove abandoned gear when it is safe to do so. Every small action helps protect our oceans and the wildlife that depends on them.”
