Swing Bridge Pre-Construction Detour Route
Multiple road closures and temporary traffic changes will be in effect in St. George’s from Tuesday, September 1 through Sunday, September 27, to accommodate work on the Swing Bridge pre-construction.
A Government spokesperosn said, “The Ministry of Public Works and Environment advises the motoring public that work on the Swing Bridge pre-construction detour route in St. George’s is progressing into Phase III. This phase is scheduled from Tuesday, 1 September through Sunday, 27 September 2026 and will involve multiple running road closures and temporary traffic changes.
“The detour route is being constructed in three phases:
Phase I – Temporary Bus Turnaround Area
“Phase I involved closing the road at Gate No. 1 and restricting access from the roundabout to Kindley Field Park while a temporary bus turnaround area was constructed. Access to the park during this phase was provided via Southside Road.
“Phase I has been completed.
Phase II – Mini-Roundabout at Gate No. 2
“Phase II involves construction of a mini-roundabout at Gate No. 2 on Waller’s Point Road.
“This phase is expected to be completed during the first week of September 2026.
Phase III – One-Way System, Bus Stop Relocation and Mini-Roundabout Works
“Phase III is scheduled from Tuesday, 1 September through Sunday, 27 September 2026.
“This phase will include the temporary relocation of the bus stop from east of the existing roundabout to an area further south along the Kindley Field Park wall. A temporary one-way roundabout system will also be introduced through the bus lane while the mini-roundabout is constructed.
“Under the temporary one-way arrangement, the bus lane will be used for westbound traffic. The bus stop at Gate No. 1 will be relocated to the grass verge along the Kindley Field Park wall, with signage installed to identify the temporary location.
“Once the mini-roundabout is completed, all traffic will be diverted through Kindley Field Park. Buses will then use the temporary turnaround area within the park.
“Work is scheduled between 7.30 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. The dates are tentative and may change due to weather or other circumstances. Traffic controls will be managed by Ministry representatives using barricades, cones and stop-and-go personnel.
“Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution, follow all traffic control directions and allow additional travel time when travelling through the area. The Ministry thanks the public for its cooperation and apologises for any inconvenience caused.”
