Woman Injured In Collision, Driver Arrested
A woman sustained injuries which have been described as life-threatening after her car was involved in a collision with an SUV in Paget early this morning [Aug 8], with the SUV driver arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.
A police spokesperson said, “Around 3:19 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, police received multiple reports of a serious road traffic collision involving an SUV and a motor car, near the junction of Cataract Hill and South Road, Paget.
“Police and other first responders were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival, found the female motor car driver trapped inside the vehicle.
“She had to be extricated with the assistance of Bermuda Fire and Rescue Services personnel. She was eventually removed from the vehicle about half an hour later, having sustained leg and hip injuries.
“She was subsequently transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, for treatment of her injuries which are considered life-threatening.
“The male driver of the SUV was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving whilst impaired by alcohol or drugs and conveyed to Hamilton Police Station where he was detained. He did not report any injuries.
“Traffic diversions were put in place while the scene was forensically processed, with westbound vehicles diverted onto middle Road at the Padget stoplights. Eastbound traffic was diverted at the junction of South Road and Southcote Road.
“An investigation into this serious road traffic collision has now begun and anyone with information is asked to contact Police Constable Dinell Bean, by calling the main police number 295-0011 or, via email, dbean@bps.bm.”
Update 8.40am: The police said, “The westbound lane of SouthRoad, near the scene of this morning’s serious road traffic collision has been reopened to regular traffic flow.
“The eastbound lane remains closed, due to a large oil spill. Eastbound traffic continues to be diverted over Southcote Road, at its junction with South Road, Paget.”
