Atlantic Voices Exhibition To Open In Bermuda
Black Pony Gallery and Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art will present Atlantic Voices, a group exhibition bringing together six contemporary artists from across the Caribbean and Mid-Atlantic: Leonor [Loope] Almeida Pereira of the Azores; Bermudian artists Meredith Andrews, Abi Box, and Charles Zuill; and Bahamian artists Jason A. Bennett and Sue Katz.
A spokesperson said, “Atlantic Voices opens with a reception on Friday, October 9, from 5:30 to 7:00pm in the Rick Faries Gallery and will remain on view through December 5, 2026.
“Bringing together artists with established practices in Bermuda, and artists equally recognised within their home island communities, Atlantic Voices explores the creative connections that exist across the Atlantic Corridor. Though diverse in medium, process and perspective, the artists share an engagement with place, memory, landscape, identity and the cultural exchange that shapes island communities.”
“This group show is at the heart of Black Pony Gallery’s journey, celebrating inter-island creative connections, participating in regional contemporary art discourse, and broadening relationships across our archipelago and beyond. As a gallerist and collector, my passion for art and creativity is deeply intertwined with my connection to the artists I work with.
“It is an honour to collaborate with these artists. Every time I curate an exhibition or an international art fair, my creative passion is ignited,” said Lisa Howie, Founder & Creative Director, Black Pony Gallery
A spokesperson added, “At the heart of Atlantic Voices is the idea of the Atlantic as more than a geographic boundary. It is a continuous body of water and a vast archipelagic region shaped by history, knowledge, movement, economic exchange and cultural connection. The exhibition creates space for each artist to contribute to the contemporary art discourse from their own island perspective, demonstrating the diversity and strength of contemporary voices across the Caribbean Mid-Atlantic.
The Artists
“Leonor [Loope] Almeida Pereira — Azores | An Azorean contemporary mixed-media artist and curator, Almeida Pereira explores memory, identity and the island environment through layered materials, colour and texture. Her practice moves between physical geography and the sensory experience of place.
“Meredith Andrews — Bermuda | A Bermudian photographer and visual artist, Andrews explores relationships between people, place and the natural environment. Her environmental practice has increasingly focused on ocean plastic and its material impact, particularly within Bermuda’s Atlantic landscape.
“Jason A. Bennett — The Bahamas | A Bahamian multi-media artist, Bennett creates abstract paintings and mixed-media collages inspired by landscapes, journeys and shifting geographies. His layered works use maps, topography and organic forms to explore the complexities of human experience.
“Abi Box — Bermuda | A British artist based between London and Bermuda, Box focuses on gesture and mark making. Her paintings combine translucent washes with expressive, saturated brushwork, creating layered surfaces that balance spaciousness with spontaneity.
“Sue Katz — The Bahamas | A longtime artist based in The Bahamas, Katz works primarily with analogue collage, using vintage and handmade papers, colour and pattern to create contemporary compositions. Her work explores identity, memory and human connection through a playful engagement with nostalgic imagery.
“Charles Zuill — Bermuda | A Bermudian artist whose practice is rooted in experimentation, Zuill draws on his interests in nature, science, materials and art history. His work has explored greyscale, natural materials and metal-point drawing, reflecting a sustained investigation into light, tone and process.
“Atlantic Voices is presented by Black Pony Gallery, established in 2020 by Lisa Howie and dedicated to raising awareness of and investment in talented contemporary visual artists residing in the Caribbean Mid-Atlantic, including the Azores, Bermuda, The Bahamas, Cayman, Cuba and Turks & Caicos.”
