BMA & BSX Mark 2026 World Investor Week
The Bermuda Monetary Authority [MA] and the Bermuda Stock Exchange [BSX] jointly marked the start of World Investor Week 2026 by ringing the BSX opening bell today, Monday, 5 October.
A spokesperson said, “The Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy event is organised by the World Federation of Exchanges [WFE] and supports the International Organization of Securities Commissions [IOSCO] World Investor Week.
“The bell ringing signals the start of the trading day and will kick off Bermuda’s tenth anniversary celebrations of this global event. Representatives from the BSX and the BMA, including Chief Executive Officer Craig Swan, participated in the ceremony, connecting Bermuda to the global network of exchanges and demonstrating support for investor education and protection.
“World Investor Week is an annual event led by IOSCO that raises global awareness about the importance of financial literacy and education. Globally, World Investor Week marks a milestone anniversary this year with a campaign focused on investor resilience, avoiding digital deception and scam awareness. Under the theme, ‘Invest in Your Future, Protect it Today’, the campaign is designed to help members of the public recognise risk, evaluate information carefully and make informed, fact-based financial decisions.”
Craig Swan, Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, said, “Ringing the opening bell is a fitting way to begin World Investor Week because it turns the start of the trading day into a public reminder that confident participation in financial markets begins with knowledge and understanding. We are proud to support a campaign that fosters financial literacy and empowers individuals, especially young people and new investors, to make decisions that support their future well-being. This reflects our commitment to protecting consumers and strengthening confidence in Bermuda’s financial system.”
Greg Wojciechowski, CEO and President of the Bermuda Stock Exchange, said, “The BSX is a full member of the WFE and sits on its Board of Directors. Every year, BSX takes part in the bell-ringing ceremony and World Investor Week. We partner with relevant institutions and organisations and take great pride in promoting financial literacy in Bermuda. This year, we are pleased to partner with the BMA in its campaign, particularly to highlight their webinar and panel discussion. We hope this week will help raise awareness about the importance of strong financial literacy in building trust, awareness and confidence among investors.”
The spokesperson said, “On Thursday, 8 October 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, the Authority will host a free webinar titled ‘Future Proofing Finance: Skills, Technology and Opportunity for Tomorrow,’ open to the public. Financial professionals and subject matter experts from the BMA will share insights on long-term financial decision-making in a digital environment. Registration is ongoing.
“Each year, during World Investor Week, IOSCO brings together organisations from over 100 jurisdictions to drive awareness around trending issues for investors. Last year’s event brought together 137 participants from 118 jurisdictions, with activities reaching millions of individuals globally.
