Government Seeks New Coast Guard Vessels

The Ministry of National Security has issued a Request for Proposals [RFP] for the procurement of new patrol and interceptor vessels for the Royal Bermuda Regiment Coast Guard [RBRCG].

A spokesperson said, “This procurement forms part of the Government’s continuing effort to upgrade and standardise the Coast Guard fleet, strengthening Bermuda’s ability to protect its maritime domain and border control, and respond effectively to a broad range of maritime security and safety requirements.

“The RFP invites qualified marine vessel manufacturers to submit proposals for the design, construction, supply, delivery, testing and commissioning of up to two 33 to 38-foot vessels. Manufacturers are asked to provide both patrol and interceptor variants, with the designs sharing as many interchangeable components as possible to support greater fleet standardisation, maintenance efficiency and future procurement.

“It also provides for the potential acquisition of additional vessels in the future.

“The new vessels are intended to provide the RBRCG with modern, high-speed, multi-mission platforms capable of supporting:

  • Maritime law enforcement and interdiction
  • Border protection and maritime security
  • Search and rescue operations
  • Maritime safety inspections
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Routine patrol operations
  • National security tasks.

“The vessels are required to be delivered as fully operational, turnkey maritime platforms with propulsion, navigation, communications, sensor, safety and mission equipment fully installed, integrated and tested.

“They will also be required to complete factory, harbour and seaworthiness testing before final acceptance by the coast guard.

“A $2.2 million allocation was made in the 2026-27 Budget under the Ministry of National Security for procurement of the vessels.”

Major Jeffrey Patterson, the RBRCG Commander, said: “The operating environment around Bermuda requires vessels that are reliable, capable and adaptable. These platforms are specified to support both high-speed interdiction and sustained patrol operations while providing our crews with modern navigation, communications, surveillance and safety systems.

“Standardisation is also a significant part of this programme. Common systems and interchangeable components across the patrol and interceptor variants will help improve training, maintenance, logistics and overall operational readiness.

“The boats will allow the coast guard to expand its operating window, thus increasing its availability to mariners in distress, as well as increasing our capacity to support border protection.”

A spokesperson added, “This announcement marks the commencement on Friday of a competitive procurement process. Proposals will be assessed against mandatory submission and technical requirements, rated criteria and pricing before the Government enters negotiations with a selected proponent.

“Interested proponents should refer to the official Government of Bermuda procurement notice for the full RFP documentation, submission requirements, timetable and any subsequent addenda.

“The RFP, available on the procurement notices section of the Government website, is identified as: Request for Proposals No.: RBRCG2026, Patrol/Interceptor Vessel Procurement – RBR Coast Guard.”
