Mid Ocean Club Approves Renovation Plans
Mid Ocean Club shareholders have approved plans for a “major golf course restoration and clubhouse renovation,” the organisation announced.
A spokesperson said, “Shareholders of Mid Ocean Club have approved plans for a major golf course restoration and clubhouse renovation, giving the project overwhelming support.
“At a Special General Meeting on October 7, shareholders and their proxies representing 61% of the company shareholding voted for the plans, while 13% voted against.”
Chief Executive and General Manager of Mid Ocean Club, Austen Gravestock, said: “This is a significant vote of confidence in the board and approval for a professionally developed plan that will ensure Mid Ocean Club retains its position among the very best golf courses and clubs in the world for decades to come. We now have the support we need to move forward and are excited for the future.”
A spokesperson added, “A vocal minority of dissenters had sought to sway the vote at the last minute, but were largely absent from the meeting which was well attended by more than 60 shareholders and members.”
Austen Gravestock continued: “While the restoration of our historic golf course has not been at issue, we understand not everyone agrees with aspects of the infrastructure rehabilitation project, including the clubhouse renovation. We respect those views and the points that were well made at the meeting, and will continue to listen.
“It’s in everyone’s interest that the renovation project is delivered on time and on budget and, alongside our long-term advisors Bermuda Project Managers Limited, we are confident this can be achieved.”
A spokesperson added, “Following the meeting, it was announced that renowned golf course architect Gil Hanse, who will oversee the restoration of the historic 1922 golf course, will visit the Club and speak to members on October 21.
“Earlier this year, the golf course was rated #44 in Golf Digest magazine’s World’s 100 Greatest Courses, a listing of the best courses outside America.
“Work on the clubhouse renovation is due to begin mid-January 2027, while the golf course restoration will proceed from October 2027.”
