Tyler Smith Set For World Triathlon Cup In Chile
Bermudian Tyler Smith is set to compete in the World Triathlon Cup San Pedro de la Paz in Chile on Sunday, November 1, joining an international field of 65 athletes in the elite men’s race.
According to the official World Triathlon start list, Smith will represent Bermuda in the competition, which is scheduled to begin at 11.15am local time.
The event will be contested over the standard Olympic distance, featuring a 1.5-kilometre swim, 40-kilometre cycling leg and 10-kilometre run.
The competition marks the second edition of the World Triathlon Cup in San Pedro de la Paz, a city in southern Chile’s Biobío Region. This year’s event will be based around Laguna Chica, with athletes competing on a course featuring the area’s natural surroundings.
Smith enters the competition following a strong performance at the Europe Triathlon Cup in Ceuta, Spain, on October 4, where he finished fifth in 52 minutes and three seconds, just nine seconds behind the winner.
Earlier this year, the Bermudian claimed a bronze medal in the men’s triathlon at the Central American and Caribbean Games in the Dominican Republic, completing the race in 1 hour, 46 minutes and 21 seconds.
He also won the men’s title at the Bermuda National Triathlon Championships in April, finishing the event at Clearwater Beach in 1:51:45.
Smith represented Bermuda at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and has continued competing internationally throughout the 2026 season.
The Chilean event forms part of the international World Triathlon Cup circuit, with the elite races scheduled for Sunday following Saturday’s para-triathlon and national championship competitions.
