Adderley Helps Rollins Win Home Regatta
Bermudian sailor Jack Adderley helped Rollins College win the Lake Virginia Invitational in Winter Park, Florida, with four race victories during the two-day regatta.
Competing on October 24 and 25, Rollins finished first among eight teams with 71 points, ahead of Florida State University on 87 and the University of Miami on 105.
Adderley sailed as skipper alongside crew Alexander Goldsmith throughout the competition, with the pair placing second in B Division on 40 points, four behind Miami.
They won races two, ten, twelve and thirteen, and recorded three second-place finishes across the 14-race series. The pair finished in the top four in 12 of their 14 races.
Rollins also topped A Division with 31 points. Caleb Kinnear skippered throughout, sailing with Mollie Wood for the opening six races and Cameron Kinnear for the remaining eight.
Saturday’s racing began in a light and shifting northerly breeze of around eight to ten knots. Eight races were completed in each division before racing ended at 4pm, with gusts reaching well into the 20-knot range. Organisers reported one awarded breakdown and no protests.
Six further races were completed in each division on Sunday. Winds again increased from around ten knots into the teens, with stronger gusts, while the event’s cut-off time left the planned second round one set short.
The result gave Rollins its second consecutive Lake Virginia Invitational title, with the college also debuting its new fleet of FJ dinghies at the event.
