Three Suspects in Weekend Shootings Released

April 6, 2010

Bernews understands that two suspects who had been arrested in the RAA shooting have been released on police bail, and one man who was arrested for the Kimwandae Walker murder this past weekend is out on bail. The other suspect is still in custody.

Unlike other cases, the police did not reveal their ages or parishes of residences, stating that they find the suspects themselves “become targets”.

The two suspects in the March 27 Jakai Harford shooting, as well as the suspect in the March 19 James Lawes murder are already out on police bail.

The terms of Police bail were discussed at today’s press conference, with Attorney General Kim Wilson explaining that the police do not have the bail powers that Magistrates do, such as making someone surrender travel documents and instituting curfews. The Attorney General said this may be changed, with the police being legally granted various increased powers of bail.
