First “Bermuda” Boat Finishes Newport Bermuda

June 21, 2010

The first “Bermuda” boat has crossed the line of the Newport Bermuda race, and is the provisional winner of the Open Division. The 90 footer “Genuine Risk” chartered by Mark Watson crossed the finish line at 7:48:45 ADT this morning [June 21]. The first boat overall across the line was ‘Speedboat’, which came in just before 5am Bermuda time today.

Mr Watson, CEO of the Bermuda based Argo Group, is far from a novice in offshore racing having won the 2008 Swan 42 National Championship. Before the race Mr Watson had said “Fellow Royal Bermuda Yacht Club members had teased me about not doing the race. And after I sailed the Fastnet Race aboard the TP52 Lucky, I decided this was the year for Newport Bermuda.”
