Football: Bermuda U17 Lose To Trinidad

bermuda football association logoBermuda’s U17 youth world cup team lost their third and final game against host country Trinidad & Tobago 2-1 in the World Cup qualifier, played at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Trinidad & Tobago today (Aug 22).

Trinidad took the initial lead, going into the half 2-nill. Bermudian Zeiko Lewis scored in the 46th minute of the second-half, to result in a final score of 2-1. The starting 11 were: Dale Eve, Shakeil Burrows, Zeon Robinson, Jair Minors, Shakhai Trott, Tre Ming, Shakeem Albouy, Zeiko Lewis, Mauriq Hill, Demetre Daniels and Quintonio Lema

Through all three games Bermuda conceded 8 goals and scored 4. Zeiko Lewis put on a fine performance leading Bermuda with 3 goals, with Jair Minors scoring a goal also. During the three games, Bermuda allowed 7 goals to be scored in the first-half; 3 during the first match against Cuba, 2 the following game against St. Kitts & Nieves and 2 in the final match featuring Trinidad & Tobago. Average of 2.3 goals per game allowed, during the first half of the competition. Meanwhile, they have only conceded 1 goal during the second half. The lone goal came from St. Kitts & Nieves, Friday afternoon of the second game.

Meanwhile, defender Jevon Swan received a serious high left ankle sprain injury. He will be out of action for some time and is currently wearing an air cast on his left leg to support the injury and has crutches to help mobilize himself.

The team returns home Monday evening August 23rd.
