Moonlight Movies Postponed Until Further Notice

September 2, 2010

The organizers of the Moonlight Movie Series have announced the events have been postponed until further notice, saying that their sales team is currently soliciting additional sponsors and once adequate funding has been secured their intention is for the series to resume. Their full statement is below:

On behalf of Startime we would like to officially announce that the Moonlight Movie Series has been postponed until further notice. There are a number of factors, which have contributed to us reaching this juncture, and we are more than willing to share further details with those who enquire.

For years social decline has been impacting our existence at an ever-increasing rate, and today we have arrived at a place where that truth can no longer be denied. Unity at all levels is required should we wish to improve our social condition and until the needs of our society are truly prioritized recent trends have proven that our condition will continue to get worse.

As social entrepreneurs, the Emperial Group and its affiliated entities continue to build programs in the interest of all Bermudian people geared toward addressing community issues and meeting social needs. In keeping with our mantra (Unity in the Community), we actively interact with high-ranking officials, government ministries, departments, Quangos, corporations, businesses and community organizations, to build bridges, share perspective, and agitate for participation and support.

We would like to thank our sponsors, Cellular One, Ace and Validus Re, for the support they have given to the series and we pray that their efforts are both recognized and replicated by others in the weeks to come. Please note that our sales team is currently soliciting additional sponsors and once adequate funding has been secured our intention is for the series to resume. We apologize to all of our patrons who were looking forward to outdoor movies at the Arboretum during the Labour Day weekend and pray that you have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend with your family nonetheless. Thank you for your continued patronage of The Moonlight Movie Series, please visit our website www.moonlightmovieseries.com for updates and we will do our best to keep you well informed.

    Moonlight Movies Postponed

The organizers of the Moonlight Movie Series have announced the events have been postponed until further notice.

Startime/Emperial Group declined to comment on the reasons but did say that once futher sponsorship was obtained, the series would be resumed.

More information will be posted on their website http://www.moonlightmovieseries.com.

Instead, you make us read through that dull and self-serving press release about a company/companies we’re not really bothered about!

    Come on, report!

I am actually rather confused, as no one “made” you read it, you opted to come to the website, chose to click the link to “read more” and made the move to click through. If you are not interested do not read it….simple solution.

Emperial Group asked us to post the statement, so we did.

You made me read it by being a great source of news. You post something, I read it. That’s the deal.

I can’t know something is bad until I’ve read it, can I?!

You’re reporters. You should be filtering the info you get so it’s presented in the best possible way. By taking a press release that is so self-serving you’re on the side of the company, not your readers.

You’ve started out so well, don’t start down the path of some other news sources in Bermuda.

So….you want us to link to a site to read a statement that is *not* there? Tell people go somewhere to read more, when they actually can’t? Makes no sense.

Your suggestion we “filter” news is actually the first we’ve had on that level as a point of interest, we get tons of compliments that we don’t “filter the info” as you suggest….many people seem to like getting unfiltered full versions.

Many news sources select snippets of info to release, so if that is someone’s preference they can seek that other places.

However, we must admit that you are correct when you say we are a great source of news :-)

I am so sad to hear this event has been shelved. It has always been an enjoyable family outing, and it’s disappointing to know that social issues have been responsible for some of it’s demise. I really hope that at some juncture it can be resurrected.

I loved and love going to these movies!! I will miss them miss them miss them!! I loved them!

This is actually tragic. What is the cost of each film night? We constantly complain about the negativity in the community and when something positive comes about we collectively refuse to provide financial support. If we are serious we should provide the fundung required. I happended to be in Dockyard during the last movie night and was amazed at teh number of people that were in attendance (incluidng families) for a clean night of being together.
Eugene, I know you and your team work very hard to brng positive activities to the community. Please do not be discouraged by this unfortunate turn events.
