Minister Meets with BSX CEO & US Consul

November 18, 2010

Minister of Business Development and Tourism Patrice Minors continued her schedule of business meetings this week.

Yesterday [Nov 17] saw two prominent meetings taking place, one with the US Consul General Grace Shelton and the other with President and CEO of the Bermuda Stock Exchange [BSX] Greg Wojciechowski.

In addition to discussing areas of common interest, other topics with Mr. Wojciechowski also revolved around Bermuda’s regulatory and operational infrastructure as well as the day to day running of the BSX. Minister Minors who was given a tour of the Exchange, had an opportunity to also chat with the BSX CEO about the upcoming Americas’ Central Securities Depositories Association’s General Assembly Conference in March 2011.

Minister Minors learned that there will be more than 100 delegates attending the event, and she noted that this was a prime example of promoting business tourism for the Island.

Meanwhile, the Minister’s discussions with Consul General Shelton criss-crossed a variety of topics, however, ultimately it was an opportunity for the two to reflect on the special relationship between Bermuda and the US. The Minister is pictured below alongside the Ms Shelton:

Minister Minors said today, “Nothing is more important to the Ministry than promoting increased economic and diplomatic ties between Bermuda and its many partners. So these were very important meetings which served to not only familiarize the US Consul General and Mr. Wojciechowski to a new Minister and Ministry, but it was also an opportunity to underscore our Ministry’s message of growing Bermuda’s business base both locally and overseas.”

Since her appointment as Business Development and Tourism Minister earlier this month, Minister Minors has met with stakeholders in the business and tourism sectors including the Bermuda Hotel Association (BHA) Executive, the Director of the Bermuda Hospitality Institute, Karla Lacey, Bermuda Business CEO Cheryl Packwood and Robert Land, CEO of JetBlue Airlines.
