SSL Privateers Seek Support For Rio Campaign
SSL Team Bermuda has launched a fundraising appeal to secure professional coaching ahead of its campaign at the 2026 SSL Gold Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Team captain Rockal Evans is organising the fundraiser on behalf of the team, known as the Privateers.
The GoFundMe page states, “We are raising USD$5,000 specifically to secure a dedicated professional coach in Rio.”
Funding would support work on tactics, crew communication and boat handling, with a training camp scheduled for November 4 to 8.
“But talent alone is not enough. Preparation matters,” the appeal adds. “This campaign is about more than one competition. It is about sustaining opportunities for young Bermudians to develop through sailing, compete alongside experienced athletes and represent their country internationally. For our sailors, this is an opportunity to test themselves against international competition and carry the hopes and pride of Bermuda with them.”
According to the official team website, Bermuda will face Antigua and Guatemala in the Pan American qualifiers from November 12 to 15, seeking a place in the Final Series.
