Four Videos: Bermuda Regiment Trooping of Colours

November 14, 2010

Yesterday morning [Nov 13] Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Gloucester presented the Bermuda Regiment with new Colours during a special ceremonial parade at the National Sports Center in Devonshire. The military practice of using Colours dates back to the 17th century.

The Colours were actually passed over by the Duchess of Gloucester, with the Regiment’s Honorary Colonel, Colonel Eugene Raynor assisting. Colonel Raynor was also present, but then as a young Lieutenant, at the Bermuda Regiment’s first presentation of Colours on 24th November 1965.

Thank you for putting up the videos and the written updates.

Even though they were short, it brought back many memories of the presentation, drill manouvers and dicipline that the Regiment show each day.

Years ago, there would have been many more people there but times change and many issues confront us. I’ve seen twice the amount of people on Front Street during a Beating of the Retreat in years gone bye.

    Thanks.

    Great Parade!!

  3. wondering says:

The amount of people present and their loud applause was much greater than that of 1990 when the grandstand wasn’t even constructed and holds less people than the original “grandstand” near Police Field side…..well done to the Officers, Men and Women of Our Regiment

Well done to the Men of the Bermuda Regiment. Think of the hours of young mens lives who are forced to perform drill in place of spending time with their friends, families, careers. The only conscripted army in the British forces. At least you know that there is time well spent to put on a parade.

Can’t you just congratulate them on a job well done? The Regiment did a fantastic job on Saturday and am a Proud Bermudian knowing they represent us.

On another note, I am the daughter, neice, cousin and sister to past and present Regiment soldiers and I can honsetly say that time away from family really does not stand out in my head. I have lived with someone being in the Regiment my entire life and can’t remember 1 major event missed by any soldiers in my family due to time spent with the Regiment.

Well done to all who participated on Saturday. You did us proud!

good points Bermygurl……despite what may be wrong with the Regiment, the men and women worked hard…..i trust that similar comments will be made by others both for and against but just because you disagree with someone or something will never take away from the fact that it was a good parade!!

      • Bermyman says:

I am conscripted and I spend plenty of time in Warwick Camp. I know exactly what goes on there and exactly how it has impacted my life in a detremental way. Soldiers should be professionals and people who choose to take this path on their own accord. Not to be forced against their will. How would you feel if someone told you that tomorrow you had to drop what ever it is you would be doing to sit and wait around for hours for no reason what so ever. Maybe myself and others would be more proud of the regiment if it was not so imprisoning to young men. If it was really people who desired a military career. We send law abiding young men to boot camp but not criminals. Make any sense?? Why not take a poll of all the young men in the Bermuda regiment as simple yes or no answer to the question, ‘ Do you want to be here? ‘. the majority would say no and that is sad indeed.
