BEST Urges Responsible & Civil Conduct

March 17, 2011

As Senators prepare to debate the Tucker’s Point SDO tomorrow, BEST said they have “been informed that Tuckers Point plans to ferry paid employees of the hotel with placards to the Cabinet Building tomorrow,” and have urged all people who plan to attend to “conduct themselves responsibly and with civility.”

BEST and CURB have both invited members of the public to join them in a “peaceful demonstration” at the Cabinet grounds tomorrow.

A BEST spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce (BEST) has been informed that Tuckers Point plans to ferry paid employees of the hotel with placards to the Cabinet Building tomorrow.”

“We have not been able to verify this, but in any case we are reminding our supporters that we have invited them to join in a peaceful demonstration and that they should not initiate nor be drawn in to any volatile situations.”

“Our presence is solely to support informed debate and decisions by the Members of the Senate, not to engage in any confrontational activities, verbal or otherwise. We would urge all people who plan to attend to conduct themselves responsibly and with civility.”

When asked about BEST’s statement Tucker’s Point might “ferry in paid employees,” a spokesperson for Tucker’s Point said, “Tucker’s Point employees who want to show their support are going to be present at the Cabinet Building tomorrow – very peacefully.”

  1. Lieutenant his Holyness ewart cox says:

The senators should kibosh this tuckers Sdo and do the decent thing and let the place go bankrupt. The free Market will then intervene as it does and some party who can actually run a hotel properly will take over.

These muppets are loosing $1m per month. The underlying premise of their argument is flawed ( they plan to create a hotel for high net worth clients lol ). Duh that’s the reason why your hotel is going bankrupt sirs ! Concentrate on getting the volume of middle class parties through the door instead and stop charging 20 dollars for a cocktail and $420 for a sun chair.

Alternatively build another monstrosity of a development which will merely only delay the inevitable……… Receivership

  2. My two cents says:

Did anyone ask Mr. Trippe if this SDO passes, can he 100% guarantee NO Bermudians working @ Tuckers will lose their jobs? Hmmm

Boy, that crowd looks so familiar. Can’t think where I’ve seen them before…..was it at Government House in 2001? Wait, no, was in June 2009 shouting “Brown Must Go!”? I know….it was in July 2010 at the House of Assembly roughing up Zane and his family…..Much ado about nothing. Dunkley makes it clear that win, lose or draw, not one block will be laid on Catchment Hill anyway.A vain debate and my Government being used yet again.

    • LOL (original) says:

This is why I could not support blind thinking your comment enshrines how most in the PLP think. If it white its wrong. And at the same time to the few Blacks in the crowd they must be confused N****s as per a Senator’s statement. ehh Hmmmmmmmmm. The more I hear from some people the more I can’t help but think how much they sound like the slave masters of old and how some whites viewed blacks in a segregated society is history going to repeat it self “enquiring minds want to know”………

      LOL

    • bermymon says:

The ONE person that slapped his car as it drove by?

You forgot the OTHER protest in June 2009 where people were respec…

OH, WAIT! You mean they’re white… gotcha.

What’s that thing called where you judge someone negatively because of the colour of their skin?

In ten years if not prior, ah never mind.

Putting a time capsual in my garden.

Having read “Epicenter” three times and counting by Joel C. Rosenberg, I see similarities and truth. Today, is certain in his writings just pick up a newspaper ..( most don’t to clumsy and work).

It’s not the “white people” that win, thats just spin. It’s the greed and behind closed doors deals of those that HAVE control.

And don’t get me started on the ‘it’s the UBP’s fault’.

If that were the case the majority would still be in shakles.
