Shootings: Four Arrests Made

October 12, 2011

The Police have arrested four men in connection with the recent spate of shootings, and said they are “working on the theory that all four incidents are connected.” Three of the suspects remain in custody and one has been bailed.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro said, “The Bermuda Police Service – Serious Crime Unit is continuing its investigations into a number of firearms incidents that took place over the past 10 days. The Service is working on the theory that all four incidents are connected. Two of the incidents resulted in relatively minor injuries and two of the intended victims were fortunate to escape without harm.”

“The first incident took place on Sunday 2nd October at 12.45pm in Glebe Road Pembroke, two suspects on a dark coloured motorcycle rode up to a group of males and fired four shots and rode off in the direction of Parsons Road. None of the males were hit.”

“The second incident took place on Wednesday 5th October, at 2.15pm on South Road roundabout where again a single motorcycle with two riders fired at least three shots at a Parks Department worker who was working on the traffic island. The man fled and was uninjured.”

Detective Pedro continued on to say that, “Two days later on Friday 7th of October at about 9.20pm, two males riding a motorcycle were shot at by two other males also riding a motorcycle along North Shore Road, Hamilton Parish in the vicinity of Shelly Bay. One victim received a relatively minor wound to his hand. This incident was originally reported to police as a road traffic collision.”

“The last incident resulted in a 25 year old male from Devonshire being shot near Gravity Night Club in the Old Clay House Inn car park at 3:15am on Saturday 8th October, 2011. The victim was taken to hospital but again released following treatment, and although his injuries are relatively minor, this could easily have resulted in far worse injuries.”

“So far, detectives have arrested four men in connection with this series of incidents, three remain in custody and one has been bailed. A comprehensive forensic strategy was put in place at all four scenes, with both CCTV and material items being recovered at each, officers will continue to examine all evidence recovered. Officers have also taken a number of witness statements and are beginning to build a full picture of events.

“Detectives are eager to speak with anyone that may have witnessed any of these incidents, or who may have information relating to the cases. Any information provided will be treated in confidence. Members of the public can leave information anonymously on the independent Crime Stoppers hotline by calling 800-8477. Or call the Serious Crime Unit directly on 247-1340,” concluded Detective Pedro.

Assistant Commissioner of Police David Mirfield said, “This spate of shootings has come at a time where violence of this nature has significantly reduced, it is however an obvious setback at a time when the Bermuda Police Service and partner agencies are making significant strides to reduce the violence. We remain determined to work tirelessly in bringing about peace and will continue to do everything we can to bring offenders to justice.”

Well done Bda Police, Obviously they have the correct ppl in custody if all locations besides the Hamilton Parish had CCTV. Say Cheeseee for the cameras idiots. More cameras are needed because this is obviously the only way we can catch & prosecute these little ba$tards. Send them to a 3rd world prision. No $ or drug or turf worth a mans life.

Bermuda Police are still a little slow off the mark..Like Organic & Ross said, why aren’t these so called gangs followed routinely….

America can track a terroist day to day actions….all the BPS can trck are seat belt offenders.

And yes, we need camera’s installed on every light post!!!…I’m for what ever it takes to restore peace and rid of Satans little kids!!

remember the great American is fighting a war with a poor country that can’t afford an army, and 10 years later they are still there, with all their intellect.

  9. MinorMatters says:

Here is a suggestion for the Bermuda Police Service (never mind ticketing motorists on the open Kindly Field Road for one minute) – save for those ‘accidental’ victims of the shootings – those who had no affiliation whatsoever with their assailant(s), I would guess that the remaining injured victims ‘know’ or have a suspicion/inkling as to who may have shot them. To the BPS – make these people a part of the the Solution by working with the KEMH and NOT releasing these people until they give up some names and if they want to remain silent then they can go from KEMH to Westgate, their choice. This will provide the BPS with additional information on which to investigate. To date, the shooting victims are in some ways a part of the problem. These shooting victims need to be a part of the solution by naming names. Yeah, yeah there will be some complainers out there but desperate times call for desperate measures.
