Top Award For Bermuda Novelist

December 13, 2011

Bermuda author Catherine West  [pictured] has won a top award for Christian literature for her debut novel — a love story set against the turbulent backdrop of the Vietnam War.

The INSPYs were created to recognise excellence in faith-driven literature and are awarded in six categories –creative nonfiction: general fiction: literature for young people: thriller/mystery: romance and speculative fiction.

Mrs. West’s book “Yesterday’s Tomorrow” took top honours in the romance section, beating out competition from across the US and Canada.

“Catherine West gives us a gritty and moving account of the Vietnam War as experienced by an intrepid journalist providing innovation of the setting, time period and subject matter,” the judges announced last night [Dec. 12].

“The edgy realism and poignant honesty that flow from West’s pen in ‘Yesterday’s Tomorrow’ place it head-and-shoulders above some of biggest bestsellers on bookstore shelves today, and it easily fulfills all the requirements set forth to make it the INSPY Award Winner for Romance.”

Educated in Bermuda, England and Canada, Mrs. West holds a degree in English from the University of Toronto.

The Bermudian author is a member of Romance Writers of America, and American Christian Fiction Writers, and is a founding member of International Christian Fiction Writers.

“Yesterday’s Tomorrow” — available at Brown & Co.’s Book Mart and at on-line book outlets — was published in March and Mrs. West is currently working on a second novel.
