Telethon To Showcase Talented Youth

December 7, 2011

Subscribing to the belief it’s not just about talent, it’s also about making youthful dreams come true, Bermuda’s Coalition For The Protection of Children announced the launch of a new telethon intended to showcase the best of the island’s young performers.

On Monday, May 21, 2012, the Coalition endeavors to encourage healthy competition and participation from schools across the island when youth — aged 17 and under — are invited to show off their dance moves, instruments, voices or other talents for an opportunity to win a chance to record in a professional studio along with a number of other fantastic prizes including a grand prize of $5,000 and an ipad2.

Contestants for the Bermuda’s Youth Got Talent [BYGT] show will have two minutes to perform their talent at an audition which will be held and filmed in the Ruth Seaton James Theatre during February of next year.

“After careful review of each act, a panel of celebrity judges will determine the top twenty, most talented finalists,” said a Coalition spokesman. “These 20, previously recorded acts, will be revealed during a three hour, live telethon broadcast where the public will be persuaded to call in and vote for their favourite performance by two of the islands most dynamic and successful performers themselves.”

Voting will consist of a donation to the Coalition and will be possible via phone call, text or online. After the show, the public will still be able to submit votes via texting or — due to the support of Premier Tickets — online until 11:59pm of May 24th.

“During the May 24 Bermuda Day parade, the top 20 acts will accompany a float that will serve to promote the event, highlight our sponsors and offer support for the participants,” said the Coalition spokesman. “At this time, contenders will be looking to draw the crowd’s attention to their own personal text number so as to encourage last minute voting along with the reminder that all votes must be received by midnight in order to be counted.”

The grand prize winner of Bermuda’s first BYGT event, along with other category winners will be announced on Monday, May 28. The successful finalists will receive their prizes with the overall winner being awarded his/her trophy title, ipad2 and cash prize.

“Through this showcase of the island’s best and brightest young performers, BYGT aims to promote motivation for our young people and excitement throughout our community while raising awareness and financial support for the Breakfast for Every Child program offered by the Coalition,” said the Coalition spokesman.
