PLP Condemns “Vile” Comments & Images

November 8, 2012

The subject of online comments and images continues, with the Progressive Labour Party releasing a statement saying “anonymous vile and disgusting online comments and images” have no place in Bermuda politics.

A statement from the party said: “The PLP believes in standing strong for Bermudians and lifting up, not pulling down. So it is always disappointing when some choose to go in the gutter.

“That, however, does not deter or discourage us for working for all of Bermuda- even the naysayers. There is a clear choice and difference between how we believe conversations regarding elections and politics should occur.

“The anonymous vile and disgusting online comments and images are unacceptable and have no place in Bermuda politics. This type of vitriol does nothing to unite the country. In fact, it only serves to take us to a place of division and separation.”

If the hat fits…. Then wear it…… gettin all bent out of shape over that oogly hat.

  2. Aware says:

Was w8n too hear from PLP

  3. Curious says:

So Makai Dickerson’s ‘comics’ were supposed to be “lifting up, not pulling down”?

    Got it

    • Verbal Kint says:

      You beat me to it.

    • #ThatIsAll says:

THANK YOU!! Just what I was thinking- Totally disrespectful but that was 3 months ago… we were supposed to forget!

    • Mad Dawg says:

Ah, but “that’s different” I imagine.

    • Gotcha says:

A statement from the party….come on , who made this statement? Was it perhaps the person who produced the vile cartoon!

  4. Sandgrownan says:

You created this climate, live with it.

Can i have my land license money back?

    • M.P.Mountbatten JP says:

@Sandgrownan ..Never would I have invested my hard earned money in a country were the climate was contrary to my lifestyle . If you really want your money back , there’s a solution to that . Take it and be done .

      • Sandgrownan says:

Like many other families, were discriminated against in our homes.

        So FU and the PLP.

        • andre says:

Bet you would not have the balls to say that in person! Amazing how being anonymous gives one so much courage.

  5. Opressed says:

And ALL the racist comments and remarks by the PLP hierarchy , starting with Dr brown and dwindling all the way down to Ms. Furbert are okay with them???

    • Fed Up Bermudian says:

Sure, that doesn’t count. Racism is what frames white peoples’ thinking, not black peoples’, and if it wins them an election, then why not? SMH.

  6. oh boy says:

Yes it is divisive but so is pulling the political race card. Hypocritical if you ask me.

  7. Wannabe Barack says:

I know the PLP likes to align themselves with Barack Obama. so Maybe they should speak to him about taking abuse from citizens. When you are the face of power in a country, you’d better be prepared to take heavy criticism when things don’t go right. Political leaders get it all the time! Barack Obama got called every racial name in the book, George Bush had shoes thrown at him, and people STILL criticize him all the time. If the PLP aren’t ready to take the hits in stride, then they probably aren’t ready to lead this country. that goes for any party that wants to rule.

  8. Wannabe Barack says:

Furthermore. has anyone browsed the internet lately?? almost every site i’ve been on has a PLP sponsored ad against the OBA. i dont want to hear their crap while they take up valuable ad space on my youtube page.

    • Portia says:

Yes, and guess who’s paying for it?

      Money well spent…

      • Fed Up Bermudian says:

No, it’s money…well, spent. It’s all in the punctuation.

  9. alsys says:

I’m sorry, which party was it again that has a candidate that “apologized” for attacking a private citizen online and using hateful language in the Sun? Right…

    • LOL (original TM*) says:

It was more like guilty with an explanation kinda short on the apology…………………………

      LOL

  10. Small fry says:

If you live in a glass house, you shouldn’t throw stones. Time for a better Bermuda. Thank you Craig for being man enough to stand up first.

  11. Winnie Dread says:

If you are gladly take my tax money, you better have a THICK skin. Unfortunatly it goes with the territory, never run for public office if you don’t want to be critiqued, some will be to your liking and most will not. What do we have here nursery school, geez?

  12. Joonya says:

Dont like de heat get out de kitchen.

  13. Malachi says:

We are living in a time when hundreds of Bermudians are unemployed and yet hundreds of foreigners are enjoying the good life. We are living in a time when in spite of a glut of living accomodations the PLP insist on building more units.

When the PLP does an honest investigation into the missing millions of taxpayer money with respect to the TCD project; when they do an honest investigation into the $800,000 peformance bond money related to Berkeley, then maybe, just maybe, people will stop the vile comments. I was always taught that you reap what you sow.

    • terry says:

      Malachi or what ever.
      The forieners are keeping stabilty.
      Are you mad?

    • Liars says:

dude it was 8 million dollars and the BIU put that money up and were supposed to lose it but the Gumbeyment bailed them out…..funny the just bailed them out again

      • Y-Gurl says:

What about the two million recently given to PHC and then got lost? Or did it build a house

  14. Piper says:

What happened to “we don’t care what you think”???

    • Family Man says:

      He’s running for election.

PLP – Standing strong for Bermudians – or at least the ones that look like them.

  15. Chart says:

    Two words: Laverne. Vanz.

  16. Portia says:

When you cannot shout louder than your dissenters, the next best thing is to silence them.

  17. Please Leave Politics says:

    Plantation
    House N!gg@
    We had to deceive you
    fist fight
cause we are a black government

    What’s the PLP talking about?

  18. Billy Mays says:

In the words of Craig Cannonier, respect the office. It would have been nice, however, if the PLP had done so the past 14 long years.

  19. CHEEKUMS BIE says:

PLP Condemns “Vile” Comments & Images

and all posters above support vile comments and images thats a damn shame

  20. mangrove tree says:

The PLp are of course veritable paragons of virtue…….

Does every statement have to include “standing strong?”

  21. Y-Gurl says:

The people have a voice and have been silenced for to long ,you have treated us badly for 14 years and now comments are bothering you….suck it up

  22. george courtney says:

this article talks about “ANONYMOUS” vile and disgusting online comments, but they the make no reference to the identified/known ones, so this must mean open season for these type of comment initiators then — i.e in particular – vanz chapman

  23. Still Laughing says:

I’m sorry, but certain members of the PLP and supporters need thicker skin if they want to survive in politics. Look at all the outrageous comments and accusations that were going back and forth during the US election and very little reaciton came from it other than a few side comments. GET OVER IT!! If they were in the US, Canada and some other countries, they’d be in tears if they ever had to face the comments and jokes there!!

    • Triangle Drifter says:

I have just experienced US politics & advertising right down to the local level for the past month & a bit. It is one rough & tumble world full of unsupported claims from both sides.

Here the PLP should consider themselves very fortunate that the OBA has not turned the heat on to them at even half the intensity that Brown & Co did to the UBP at the last election.

It is my hope that the OBA does run a much more US style campaign. The PLP has much to answer for during their 14 years of failure.

  24. street wise says:

The plp are absolutely untrustworthy, and that will ensure their demise. You cannot believe a word they say….

  25. Triangle Drifter says:

Thou shalt not criticise the PLP. Y’all better learn to respect that comandment. In their ears anything negative said about them, no matter how true, is vile.

They have never been able to stand the heat. Get out of the kitchen.

  26. terry says:

    Check LF and V’s accounts.

  27. Big Dog says:

This is obviously the next political tactic of the PLP pre-election. They can see the negative comments from the bloggers including many which are clearly within their target audience (see their Facebook page its very revealing). This is impacting their image. So they need to try to marginalize the bloggers.

How to do that? Easy, reach for race once again. If you actively read the blogs you will see similar structured comments appearing on most sites which attack bloggers for being racist notwithstanding the comments posted (but obviously anti-PLP).

This is a typical action by a Government which needs to shore up its perceived electoral base. Bermuda has been held under a rule of Black tyranny since the PLP came into power. The bloggers are speaking up in a quasi revolutionary way against this tyranny. It is why the PLP attach with such vehemence, Kevin Comeau. He speaks sense, but it undermines their rule of black tyranny.

    So blogger don’t be deterred.

  28. Serious Though says:

OBA supporters DO NOT taunt PLP supporters! R.E.S.P.E.C.T!

if this become the next election PLP line, OBA is history!! trust me…..

  29. Noel Ashford says:

Yes – They pick and choose whats vile – well I am not posting anonymously – PLP – I find how you govern us to be vile and distateful – do a better job and EARN respect – I owe you nothing and you wont get my respect until you do your jobs and act like a government and put more ethical individuals of a higher caliber in. I am tired of being asked to accept lesser than we deserve from a government.

  30. F U PLP says:

F U plp dont try and pull the race card either because the majority of people who are posting are probably fed up Bermudians of all backgrounds like myself. And not paid bloggers like the silly statment made,, these are actually real people fed up of how you ran the country as hard as it is for you to believe. The people on Bermuda memes just announced the same thing on there site.
You are outraged over comments on the internet but not outraged over the violence on our streets?? Be outraged over that! Come on Bernews and be furious over that! Say you will fix that problem by any means you have to! I mean come on!!You had more than enough time to fix problems after the 3rd or fourth shooting in 2009!! and did nothing shooting after shooting you did nothing.
Instead of talking about comments online you should be doing your ffing job. People are terrified of all this violence this is the worst violence in Bermuda’s history probably since the riots. And you have done nothing?? No aggressive police nothing?
So i say F U and your party for letting the country go down like this. Should have never voted for your party the last time.
**And Yes it is your fault. 21 miles by 3 miles wide and cant fix the gang problem give me a break.**

And your statement saying it only divides the country. Get out of office and stand in line and vote like everyone else and you can unite with us under different leaders like ordinary citizens.

Wanted to let you know how one of your past supporters feel, hope you read it.

  31. Jim Bean says:

    Mr Ashford – spot on….

  32. Jim Bean says:

I cannot believe the PLP would post such crap….they are double talking..

  33. Liars says:

    good 1 FU PLP…. l totally agree

  34. dthtoo/ says:

  35. LOL says:

the people of bermuda maing vile comments about the plp doesn’t that make them think, like they should be getting the hint that bermudians are fed up with how bad they’ve been….

  36. Alaskas Bies says:

i am PLP amd Patrice should be fired period

    whats vile about that

she has falied miserably at every single ministry she is very rude or always curt unapproachable and unless supported at a press conference by her cousin Premier Cox it is clear she is clueless

she told us on C10thst she didnt need us and wold go to c2 or c4 now she is staying to lose and be put in the Senate, why not put my young mate Quallo in the Senate a young lawyer with promise instead of suffering more through Patrice and her failure

And no i do not respect Patrice or her office but yes i do respect our Premier and Party Leader Paula Cox

  37. circada says:

the plp made us a place of division and separation 3 days after they won the election in 1998 when they ignored Remembrance Day and all those who fought and died for Bermuda and instead had a big party for “the people” (but not all people). Their vitriol and lies have only grown more bitter since

  38. mskhksjl says:

If you run the bloody country… dont take offence to anonymous online comments…

    ahahahaha

  39. Time Passages says:

This incredibly insincere, deceiving announcement is about the lowest thing the PLP has ever done – while being the absolute best piece of advertising for the 1,000,0005 more credible OBA.

Congrats PLP, you’ve finally lost it. The person who decided to release this needs to be embraced (not fired) and encouraged to release many more of these supposedly caring (but in fact meaningless and misleading and unbelievable by anyone of the remotest intelligence) press releases. You made my day and I am still laughing out loud – really I am.

PLPBS – get out of Parliament.

  40. Time Passages says:

PLP insults OBA = OK, live with it.

OBA vaguely criticizes PLP = racist bas turds.

You made your bed PLP – now you lie in it.

    You PLP created this.

Enjoy you last few days in power. Merry Christmas.

  41. bye bye says:

Big question – at what point does racism become reality? I’m confused

  42. Victor says:

Some concrete examples from the alleged victims would be helpful…As a victim myself, I clearly remember Ewart Brown saying the colour of my skin makes me a plantation owner.

  43. joe says:

The most disgusting comments I have seen posted anywhere have been from Laverne Furbert or what I take to be one of her many alias. Her talk of ‘vomit OBA’ and the like I find most offensive. Negative posts are permitted, for after all this is politics.

    • Numerically Speaking says:

No no no, dear boy, no.
It’s politics when it comes from OBA or UBP. It’s GOSPEL when is comes from the blessed and anointed PLP. ****detect the hint of sarcasm???

  44. oh boy says:

It’s called freedom of speech, the right of any democracy so Eff off

  45. blankman says:

The only “disgusting images” I’ve seen have been pictures of hats (and their wearer). If those images are “disgusting” it would suggest that the individual’s fashion sense needs resetting along with the rest of the dial (pun intended).

As for nasty remarks (although I think most people would label them as witty comments) if/when the PLP stop with theirs (and our former Premier apologizes for remarks he made in the House (racist dog anyone?)) it will be time for both sides to settle down.

Until then, anyone that chooses to appear in public while in silly attire is fair game.

  46. MAKE MY DAY says:

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!! Burch – Brown – Commissiong!!! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!! They are always looking for the “House —”!!!

    • Vulpes says:

The irony about Ewart, Rolfe and Derek’s H# routine is that the joke is on them…

  47. Will says:

what about the PLP condemning vile and gross negligence, vile political practises etc….oh wait, that would be shooting themselves in the foot wouldnt it?!

  48. LX says:

dont bitch about something if youre doing the same thing. stop throwing rocks plp, you live in a thin glass house. the only thing that was vile and disgusting is the way you run the country and the way you bash the OBA……

    hypocrites….

  49. Concerned says:

Standing on the corner with banners, wearing the green, some smiling others looking confused – one young man on the corner of Tee Street and Middle Road – not one supporter – is that a sign of things to come. I think he should be applauded for standing on his own. I love to support our young men who are doing positive things for themselves. May you continue on – things don’t work out in the green room – walk over on the red carpet.

  50. DUMBPLP! says:

ANY stupid person who continues to support this poor excuse for a “government” I wanna know what they are paying you to stay a supporter?! You cannot seriously support a party who has done NOTHING but turn this island into HELL. They don’t even help their own people, they help themselves with OUR money. Yes OBA will have A LOT to do to fix what these stupid PLP clowns have done but they are actually willing and sincere about what they say. They won’t be able to fix everything overnight but they WILL fix it. OBA I support you 100%!!!!!!! This talk all the time about what color skin does he/she have is BS! Segregation ended years ago. Its about time you all get the hell over it. DO what is right for your country and teach your children better ways to think and live when it comes to these things.

  51. Y-Gurl says:

Like we have the power to change the channel when you come on spewing election garbage it is your prerogative NOT TO READ the comments

  52. elementary says:
