Video: Chewstick Tag Day Street Performances

December 8, 2012

Locals walking around Hamilton yesterday [Dec 7] were treated to a tag day with a difference, as street performers from the Chewstick Foundation entertained people while raising funds.

The Tag Day served to raise essential funds for general operating expenses and to enhance their service to the community, and saw performers stationed in various locations including outside Digicel, People’s Pharmacy, Phoenix, Butterfield Bank, Washington Mall, the Emporium, and Walker Arcade.

Chewstick also included a modern twist on Tag Days introducing Bermuda’s first ever “Virtual Tag Day,” where they challenged the online community to raise more than those on the street.

Some of the artists who took their talents to the streets in support of The Chewstick Foundation included Princess Black, Haz, Rivah, Caiside and many more.

The Chewstick Foundation conducts youth and artistic programs at their headquarters in North Hamilton and actively collaborates with and support other organizations and charities to break down social barriers and better serve the community.

A spokesperson said: “By supporting The Chewstick Foundation, you are not only enabling them to continue and expand their programmes, but you are also ensuring that Chewstick is able to assist partner charities in furthering their mission by providing a platform and resources that might otherwise not be available.”

I’m happy for Chewstick, but I’m a little confused. I thought “busking” was illegal.

    • Roses are red says:

It’s legal as long as you have a permit.

Congrats Chewstick on putting a new spin on traditional tagging :D
