Photos/Results: George Duckett Memorial Rugby

January 15, 2013

The Bermuda Police Rugby Football Club hosted the George Duckett Memorial Rugby Tournament at Police Field on Saturday [Jan 12], which saw four matches played.

This is the 40th year since the inaugural match took place. George Duckett was a former Commissioner of Police who was assassinated in 1972. He was a larger than life man at 6’5” tall, and was also an ardent rugby fan.

In 1973, the Police Rugby Section commenced an annual memorial game, and former colleagues and ‘Faded Blues’ [former police rugby players] continue to show their respect by attending this police sporting tradition.
