Two Teens Admit Having Offensive Weapons

March 19, 2013

Two 16-year-old school students — Kenwell Pearman and Malik Wilson — appeared before Senior Magistrate Archie Warner this morning [Mar 19]  and admitted possessing an offensive weapon.

Both pleaded guilty to the offences which happened at a Police stop on Montpelier Road Devonshire in February 2013.

The Magistrate was told that Pearman was the cycle rider and had a knife with a 3-1/2inch blade and that there was a hand axe with a 3-1/2inch cutting edge under the cycle seat. Wilson was the passenger and had a baseball bat.

At the time that they were stopped, both boys told Police that they had the items for their personal protection.

Wilson’s mother was present and asked to speak. She told the Magistrate that she had encouraged her son to come to Court and acknowledge the facts and plead guilty to the charges. She said that Wilson lived with her and her family and had an 11:00pm curfew that night. She then reminded the Magistrate that both boys were young and she’d like to see them given a second chance.

Both boys were granted bail of $1,000 with one surety each. Both also agreed to wear Electronic Monitoring Devices and to abide by a curfew that would confine them to their homes from 9:00pm until 6:00am every day.

Magistrate Warner ordered a Social Inquiry Report on each and required them to attend on 30th April to receive their sentences.

A baseball bat? An axe? A blade? I don’t have anything like that. But then again, I don’t need to protect myself.

Dear mom/s of the boys, if they are traveling around with items like that then you will likely need a stack of chances for your sons.

Boys, you’re young. Don’t ruin the rest of your life.

What a shame. So young and having to carry weapons for their own protection. What has my island come to?

As an adult I can travel anywhere without fear, but today, young people cannot travel far from their home. When I was their age I could travel anywhere from Dockyard to St. George in Bermuda without the fear of being attacked. In fact I had friends island wide. How are we going to change this situation? It’s absolutely ridiculous.

This is what it’s come to!
Got a feeling all hell’s going to break out this summer.

On one of the tv news reports last night it was claimed that the boys had said that they were going to a party and needed the equipment for their own protection.
Now , if you believe that story , and it’s a big ‘if’ , we’ve heard this claim many times in the past.
‘I was going to a party and needed it for protection’

What kind of knuckleheads feel that they must go places where they will be exposed to threats to their life ?
Isn’t it smarter to just NOT go ?
These parties must have some very powerful allure.

It is a possibility that these boys have been threatened and/or followed so they’re carrying in the event that they need to fight back. Don’t get me wrong, carrying weapons is against the law, no questions asked. But hopefully the social inquiry will bring any such issues to light. I do feel that an axe is a bit extreme though.

Hopefully the police got it out of the teens who they were trying to protect themselves from. Nowadays kids can do something as slight as glance at one of these wanksters to become on their hit list. Maybe the wanksters won’t shoot a person for looking in their direction but they won’t think twice about jumping someone for that. Fighting back at these idiots & getting the upper hand could mean ones life as its all about the rep so some take a beating & keep their mouths shut in fear.

  6. Punks... says:

The funny thing about this is that these young biys prolly wouldn’t even be able to handle the sight of blood leakin out of another human being if they were to use the weapons…#1 way young criminals get caught is leaving DNA(vomit) evidence when it all goes down…haha Punks…In UK we fist fight…simple!

We need to understand nothing stays the same somethings have to go wrong before they go right. no its not a good imagine and no its not what we’re used to but it will continue to go wrong if no one takes a stand. I read on here all the time that the people need to take charge and its the parents fault or the kids are out of control. I don’t blame anyone because we have ALL acted the way our parent raised us to act in front of them n different behind their backs. NOBODY can say not me because that’s a LIE. So us as a community have to first say and truly feel that enough is enough and than step up. People may say they’ve had enough but that’s not true because SOME haven’t took action. So until we’ve had ENOUGH all I can say is BE SAFE

Read the UK newspapers. Black people also get shot dead everyday there for just knocking against someone in the bar. Bermuda is no worst than Birmingham, Shrewsbury, Chicago, Florida Japan ,or Korea.

    We all need to pray.
