Zakiyyah Showers Wins Bronze In Bahamas
Bermuda’s Zakiyyah Showers claimed the island’s third track and field medal, crossing the line in 11:30.06 to win a bronze medal in the 3000m last night [Mar 31].
Other Bermuda track and field athletes also saw action in the afternoon session yesterday. In the Under 17 3000m Daniel Oatley finished 4th clocking a time of 10:02:75, while Bruce DeGrilla finished 8th in the Under 20 long jump. Naquan Smith finished 9th in the Under 20 javelin with a toss of 43.31m, while Jah-Nhai Perinchief finished 7th in the Under 17 high jump with a top leap of 1.90m.
This is the third track and field Carifta medal win for Bermuda, following after Sakari Famous’ silver medal in the high jump, and Kyrah Scraders silver medal in the 1500m.
The swimming portion of the Carifta Games is being held in Jamaica, while the track and field segment is being held in the Bahamas – with Bermuda’s young athletes delivering medal winning results at both venues. You can view all our coverage of the Carifta Games here.
