ICC Cricket League: Bermuda Defeat Italy

Bermuda and Italy met up today [May 2] at the Somerset Cricket Club, with Bermuda claiming the victory with veteran cricketer Lionel Cann leading the way with his 113 runs – which included 11 sixes.

Bermuda won the toss and elected to bat scoring 284 all out in 50 overs. Lionel Cann was the top scorer with 113 off 48 deliveries. Cann hit 6 fours and 11 sixes in his inning, while Tre Manders added 64 off 86, he hit 7 fours and 3 sixes. Dilan Fernando Arsakulasuriya was the pick of the Italy bowlers as he bowled 7-0-42-3.

In reply Italy could only manage 224, Peter Petricola and Carl Sandri both scored 66 for Italy, while Malachi Jones returned figures of 9-1-51-3, Janeiro Tucker bowled 9-1-30-2 and Rodney Trott bowled 8-1-35-2.

The match is part of the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League [WCL] Division 3, which has six international teams taking part. The two other matches today saw Nepal beat Oman, and Uganda defeat the USA.

The next matches will be played on Saturday [May 4], with Bermuda taking on the USA at the National Sports Centre, Nepal matching up against Italy in St David’s and the Uganda vs Oman game taking place in Somerset. The finals will take place on Sunday.
