Retail Sales Index: Sales Decline In April 2013

June 6, 2013

According to the recently released Retail Sales Index, total retail sales in April 2013 fell 1.2%, and after adjusting for inflation the volume of retail sales fell by 3.9%.

Sales activity declined in all retail sectors with the exception of motor vehicle retailers and food stores which recorded increases of 4.4% and 2.5%, respectively. Retailers of building materials reported the strongest decline in sales for the month of 20.6% year-over-year.

Residents declared 5.4 million [or 10% less] in overseas purchases than in April 2012, which the report said “may have been partly due to the new HM Customs Green/Red channel system for declaring goods at the airport introduced in November 2012.”

2 more shopping days than last year, and a decline. I thought the OBA was supposed to fix things… WTF is going on.

    Cannonier, get cracking!

You really think Cannonier is running the show? A rookie into the political field & you think he is actually left to his own accord to run things?

There’s a decline because people are no longer ashamed of 2nd hand items. Thrift store shopping is taking over. $1 for a BCBG item with a tag still on it. Freecycling Bermuda is doing well.
