Man Admits Impaired Driving: Fined $1700

November 6, 2013

Dunn Omara was fined $1,700 and disqualified from driving all vehicles for 12 months this morning [Nov 6] in Magistrates Court.

The 42-year-old pleaded guilty to driving whilst impaired, driving without a seatbelt, and carrying a passenger, a one year old child, in an unlawful manner. But Omara denied that he was drunk and asserted that he was capable of driving his car.

Crown Prosecutor Susan Mulligan told Senior Magistrate Archie Warner that around 5:30pm 24th October 2013, police had noticed irregularities and had stopped Omara.

Police observed that Omara was not wearing a seat belt and that the front seat passenger was carrying a young baby in her arms. After Omara had gotten out of the car, Police determined that he had been drinking. Omara was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station for further tests.

Ms Mulligan told the Magistrate that when he was initially stopped, Omar said to Police: “All this for a $50 ticket?”

Omara told the Magistrate: “I wasn’t drunk. I’d had a few drinks. I was capable of driving.” The Magistrate told Mr Omara that he was charged with driving whilst impaired, not with being drunk, and that he had admitted the offence.

He had not even drove out of the parking lot when the police just randomly drove their car across the street into oncoming traffic. When the two foreigner cops approached him it was all negative energy that released from them.Once they handcuffed him and told him he had to go in the car he was walking with no problem until they started pushing him like he was a damn rag doll with seconds later pepper spraying him for no reason and then they wonder why nobody likes the police!!!!!So please before u all judge somebody know the facts before u start ya judgement! No seatbelt, a one year old child…and he’d had a few drinks. Blame the Police, that’s right. I bet you were both shouting illiterate insults the whole time…

    • Sandy Bottom says:

So you were the person sitting in the front seat if the car holding a baby?

Haven’t you ever heard of child seats? Aren’t you even slightly aware of how dangerous what you were doing was?

And who cares if the policemen were “foreigners” as you put it? What difference does that make? They were doing their job, protecting your baby from your stupidity. And protecting the rest of us from your babydaddy driving while over the limit.

And you complain about the “negative energy”? Get a frekin life.

      • Field says:

GOOD DAY, SANDY B…I DO RECALL A TIME IN BERMUDA WHEN FOLK WERE ALLOWED TO HAVE THE TRUNK OF THEIR CAR OPEN WHILE DRIVING EVEN SO THEY LET THEIR KIDS HANG THEIR FEEET OUT THE BACK. I ALSO REMEMBER DAYS WHEN THE SEATBELT WAS NOT REQUIRED. THINGS WERE FUN N SIMPLE THEN.. SO I QUESTION SANDY BOTTOM, WERE ALL (THOSE WHO DID)THOSE FOLK ACTING IRRESPONSIBLE OR DANGEROUS AS YOU CALLED IT?
YES THE POSSIBILITY AND RISK OF DANGER WAS THERE HOWEVER IT DOES NOT TAKE AWAY THE CAUTION AND CARE THAT WAS TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION.. SOME LAWS ARE YES MADE TO HELP BUT MOST IF NOT ALL ARE MADE JUST TO MAKE MONEY..
THAT BABY SEAT TRIP IS JUST A RIP TO MAKE MONEY SET UP FROM HIGHER FOLK, YES IT CAN SAVE YOUR BABIES LIFE BUT TO MAKE IT MANDATORY AS IF THERE WAS NEVER A WAY WITHOUT IT IS A BIT MUCH..

        PS. DONT BE SO JUDGMENTAL
