PLP MP To Host Lamb-Foggo UCC Meeting

November 12, 2013

The Progressive Labour Party will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting on Thursday [Nov 14] starting at 7pm at the Clearwater Middle School, and are encouraging anyone interested in keeping the Lamb-Foggo Urgent Care Centre open to attend.

Citing financial losses in the $100,000 to $350,000 per year range, the Bermuda Hospitals Board [BHB] recently announced the St David’s medical facility would be closing.

St David’s MP Lovitta Foggo has spoken out against the closure, saying the OBA “turned its back on the people of the East End,” while Shadow Health Minister Zane DeSilva said the OBA “neglected to mention” that the OBA Chairman, an OBA MP, and a former OBA MP are all members of the BHB board that made the decision.

Ms Foggo, the host of this meeting, said, “The Lamb-Foggo Urgent Care Centre has become an invaluable resource for residents of the east end. I encourage anyone interested in keeping the Urgent Care Centre open to attend this important meeting to ensure that your voice is heard.”

Shadow Health Minister Zane Desilva added, “We can’t let the government turn its back on the people of the east end. The people deserve to be consulted and considered before any decision is made on the Lamb-Foggo Urgent Care Centre. Please join us this Thursday at 7pm at the Clearwater Middle School and together we can fight to keep Lamb-Foggo open.”

Not to be a dark cloud over PLPs parade, but why you gonna complain about debts and money, but fight to keep open a place that runs at a 6 figure loss per annum..?

KEMH is in the center of the island, on an island that is only so big. It shouldnt take that long to drive anywhere and then back.

The real problem is PLP always talk talk talking..
And all these soccer moms who do not know how to drive their SUVs and safely pull over to let emergency vehicles pass. Or the fact that they pull over parallel to another SUV opperated by another soccer mom and they both spazz out and freak as the ambulance is trying to get them to get out the way.

  2. GOD1ST says:

Put the building up for rent.

  3. street wise says:

The story ends with the loss of up to $350,000 per year. The Country simply cannot afford the East End Clinic. Sorry.

    • No Effin Way! says:

      Today its 350K, tomorrow it’ll be 1 million…

How much does a life cost?

  4. Kangoocar says:

Hopefully at this meeting, those two plp mp’s will be honest and apologize for the whole plp and take responsibility for this closing!!! If the plp and their incompetence had not made such a disaster of our economy and finances, we would not be in this situation!!! You just cannot continue to run a country, business or anything at a continual loss, I am quite sure zane knows that and does not run his business that way!!! Those types of politicians make me particularly sick because they are not helping the situation they are encouraging it!!!!
Just apologize and end the meeting!!!!

    • Y-Gurl says:

They never told us the truth for 14 years why on earth would they start now?

  5. aceboy says:

Sorry PLP, you claimed this and other projects were fabulous and were the work of the PLP giving to the people in the run up to the last election. Just more PLP fail. The irony is that if you were indeed the government you’d be having a meeting to discuss the matter in exactly the same way you are now. You’d be telling us that you have a plan for a plan…AGAIN.

  6. Just the facts..... says:

I would love to hear the PLP’s solution? How do they plan on finding $350,000 a year to help pay for a site that is grossly underutilized? Which service do they plan on cutting to fund this one, or which tax should we raise? More taxes on alcohol and cigarettes (sin taxes)?

The former Health Minister is great for shooting off his mouth to demonize any changes, but he sure as heck hasn’t given us any solutions!

  7. Kindley says:

It is not good for any Urgent Care to close. I hope something can be worked out to keep it open.

  8. Somebody's Momma says:

There are many people who have benefitted from the facility. Rather than close it, maybe a review of how it could be be run more efficiently maybe helpful. When the OBA reopen the indigent clinic will the same principle be applied. Will it be financially viable.

For the people who I know that drive from Somerset to St. David’s because the wait time is less, it will be back to the 5 hour wait at KEMH.

    • Clara says:

If you are waiting for 5 hours at KEMH, then you must me going at a very busy time with an extremely non-urgent problem.

      • Come Correct says:

I went last Friday and was out in less than an hour. Pleasantly surprised.

  9. The PLP like losing money! They just dont get it! Let Mrs. Foggo run it with her money for one month i bet she will come to the conclusion that she can’t afford it, well the same for our government! If you want to keep it open u have to sacrifice like cutting the CS in half.

  10. watching says:

There are many government departments and facilities that are not profitable. Will the OBA be closing them all? Sometimes peoples’ wellbeing needs to be put ahead of the almighty dollar. Perhaps the OBA can find a way to ensure it is utilized by making the ER for emergency cases only and directing other less critical issues to the Urgent Care center. Have all alternatives been considered? It is highly unfortunate that the residents of the east end have had no consultation regarding something so critical to their wellbeing. We have heard nothing from MPs Kenny Bascome and Nandi Davis on this. At least Ms. Foggo and Mrs. Holshouser have addressed the topic, even though they have divergent opinions. I guess Mr. Bascome and Ms. Davis oath of silence extends outside of the House of Assembly as well.

    • No Effin Way! says:

The ER Loses money.. Lets close that aswell!!

Buses and ferries and post office do aswell, time to close.

We have 50K to give to the philipines, and gov spends non-stop money on travel and consultants, but yet this has to close.

      BS!

  11. Guy Carri says:

It’s ez man. Since erryone keeps sayin how good it is for de east enders and dey say how much dey lluuuvvv it, let em pay their share of de loss to make it a break even. I.e. say 20,000 peeps live up de east. Divide de $250k or whatever loss a year by all dem people and get each and every living soul up de east (all 20,000 of em) to pay up to keep it open. Betchu dey gonna say, “No way bie, close her down!!”
Lemme start by sayin, I’m a east ender and dat aink gonna fly wif me co!

  12. John says:

If people used the ER for EMERGENCIES then the wait would not be that long. People call ambulances for non urgent things! I have been there and heard people complaining that they are waiting so long for something that is apparently “quick” what gives you the right to assume you are to be treated above and beyond someone having a heart attack or not breathing …… emergencies! Also those complaining about lamb foggo closing should of probably utilized it for what it was there for when It was open, every time I went there was no one there! Sad but I agree not financially viable.

  13. Sesame Street Rock says:

BERMUDA people – you really need to wake up and pay attention !

No public medical facility needs to be closed on this small, small island when you see the gravy pot and financial riches that the doctors, lawyers and insurers make from the sweat and tears of the people that live here. It is purely bad management. Doctors office here thrive and the wealth can be seen in the premiums that you pay for health insurance – so don’t give up on your already tax-paid facility because you are not wise enough to see that this is all just politics. $250,000 is nothing in comparison to the perks and salary of a single top civil servant worker – are all of you bloggers that BLIND.

It is purpose built and if the BHB new board is too lazy to do a proper business plan that is no reason why the people of Be3rmuda should suffer. Many government facilities operate at a loss but this one has the potential for being in the black. Consider scraping or closing the Post Office, Sandys 360 or our senior high schools which are definitely not contributing to he positive purse of the taxpayers.

Stop Blaming. This is a Bermuda problem especially for you people in the east end including the airport. If there is a serious incident with arriving or departing passengers and the bridge is closed or just general healthcare in the area – the purpose built facility is there.

What is your solution ? Fix what needs to be done or be the OSCAR in the room.

You and all the other half wits can’t live in the past forever. Or can you ? So just stop complaining like a spoiled grouch and help put our house in order.

Realize we have a purpose built healthcare facility that the current government is considering closing … so grow up and come up with a solution. The PLP can do nothing right now and can’t change the past. If they screwed up then so be it. LET’S JUST CONSIDER WHAT WE HAVE AND HOW CAN WE FIX IT FOR THE PEOPLE OF BERMUDA !

I am sure you are no rocket scientist and I expect that none of your family members are as well. So act like an adult and make the steps forward to get something done. The urgent care facility is NOW .. I repeat. This needs to be addressed NOW. NOT YESTERDAY – no single party or person built BERMUDA – it was neighborhoods and everything was never always done right by our government and our forefathers – SO GET OVER IT.

Many of the politicians just took on the role – they were not all the most intelligent bunch of people with some never getting past a high school education. This is what we have in Bermuda – but they were the chosen ones elected and … with some of the politicians “their agenda was not always the people’s agenda”. I PEPEAT … SOME OF OUR POLITICIANS have their own agenda. So don’t put them on pedestals. That’s why we have elections. But realize some of those people are really smart and credit should be given and they do have the people’s INTEREST at heart.

It took families with all sorts of issues like you display – yours are too personal that it keeps you RETARDED and a HINDERANCE to anything that can be POSITIVELY moved forward. It is you that can help but you spend so much time hating, blaming and complaining about things that you become effectively useless unless we want to listen to you grumble all day. Absolutely a waste of ENERGY and NOTHING gets done as you take up air time !!!

Cheez … you people on these blogs have so much personal issues, it is unbelievable !!! Who constantly complains about a dirty house without cleaning will forever live in rubbish. Just roll your sleeves up … get over it and contribute to cleaning up the mess. But for heaven sakes GROW UP and stop whining, complaining and stop avoiding do the housecleaning. Things need to move forward for our children. So all of you, PLEASE … PLEASE … PLEASE … JUST GROW UP.

It is not always about OBA and PLP. It’s about BERMUDA !!!

WE know the PLP made numerous mistakes but keep it real WHY ..WHY .. WHY. DON’T YOU EVER GET TIRED OF BLAMING AND COMPLAINING !!! Will admitting they made mistakes let you move on and then I guess – YOU WIN WHATEVER STUPID GAME that you where looking to be RIGHT ABOUT. And then WE CAN MOVE ON. SO Let me help you and many other out. THE PLP, UBP and many other Governments have messed up. But at this rate, the OBA looks set to mess up as well. Because it doesn’t appear that they have the people’s interest at heart. HAPPY NOW !!. WAKE UP .. You are now a muppet on Sesame Street – Just don’t be OSCAR the GROUCH.

POLITICIANS ARE FICKLE BUT PLEASE RESOLVE YOUR PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS AND COME UP WITH ANSWERS THAT OUR CURRENT GOVERNMENT CAN EMPLOY. LIVE IN THE NOW … THE PAST is just THAT. THE PAST.

Climb out of your CAN and start helping the neighborhood.

The Fix-it Shop … this is where Marva and Luis worked at the end of the neighborhood block on Sesame Street and the muppets understood that in order to get things fixed and move forward you sometimes had to HELP OUT. I know you can be helpful … so talk like you have an education and help us come up with sensible solutions as a people.

Remember … some politicians have agenda that may not be in the best interest of the people who they PRETEND to serve. Over the years … they are usually exposed – no matter what side of the political fence that they sit on. Some are educated and others are dumb as a door nail. You know that and so do I.

SO BE HELPFUL and DO SOMETHING USEFUL IN YOUR LIFE BESIDES CONSTANTLY COMPLAINING ABOUT THE PAST AND THE PLP – THIS .. AND THE OBA – THAT.

STOP being the OSCAR in the neighborhood and come out of your CAN which is full of rubbish and help your neighborhood (BERMUDA) and throw away some of your old garbage !!! You will feel so much more refreshed. I hope that you are not the person with so many insecurities that bashing others make you feel superior.

I don’t know who you are but write a book, create a movie or just sing a song if you have so much personal anger that it is difficult for you to work with your neighbors. It would make for a more pleasant BERMUDA and your distractions from grouching would not interfere with the people who generally like to work on improvements for our great ISLE here in BERMUDA and support the positive that can move Bermuda and it people forward.

  14. Concerned Observer says:

When the government announced that the continuing care, which had provided care to 150 bed-ridden elderly and disabled for decades, nobody said anything.. not even from plp… they even applauded it…. it is not just BHB… it is the government… the government stopped paying for those patients in CCU… for so long that money was abound… no measures were taken to ensure quality public care for seniors… remember, all of us are gonna grow old… shall we not fight fot that cause as well?

    • Concerned Observer says:

they means, the masses in general, plp is not the antecedent for that…
