“We recognize the enormous challenges that many in our community are facing today, and we wanted to find a way to touch a broad cross section of the community. There are many worthwhile charitable organizations in Bermuda, which makes the selection process difficult. Charities House is comprised of charitable bodies that assist families, seniors and aspiring athletes making them an ideal partner” explained Mr. Dobson.

Mrs. Jennifer Mahoney, Assistant Vice President of Marketing at BTC further explained, “BTC is donating $6,000 to be divided among each charity resident in Charities House to support clients in need of essential services.

“We will also be raising additional funds through an e-billing campaign through the end of January, and our staff are organizing an internal food drive. It is imperative that we as a business community find ways to support these types of efforts year round, not just during the holiday season.”

During the event, BTC doubled their donation to $12,000

Distinguished guest speakers for the event include three first ladies: Mrs. Margaret Fergusson, wife of Governor George Fergusson; Mrs. Antoinette Cannonier, wife of Premier Craig Cannonier; and Mrs. Melanie Settje; wife of US Consul General, Mr. Robert Settje.

Mrs. Martha Dismont of the Family Centre stated, “Although we help families throughout the calendar year, the Holiday Season is often a time that we are called upon to give a little more. Our partnership with BTC represents the perfect opportunity for family and community to come together”.

Mrs. Patrina O’Connor of Big Brothers and Big Sisters acknowledged, “Times are changing. As charitable organizations we recognize that we can no longer afford to go it alone, for the sake of our clients we have to work together.”

Mrs. Judith Burgess of PRIDE Bermuda indicated “A vision of the tenants of Charities House has been to find as many ways as possible to collaborate for the maximum benefit of the people we serve. There is a place for everybody here to make a difference for Bermuda.”

“The Women’s Resource Centre is privileged to be a part of the charitable partnerships that are being built in Charities House – it is wonderful for us all to be in this together”, says Mrs. Patrice Frith Hayward of the Women’s Resource Centre.

“We look forward to hosting the first ladies and for their participation in acknowledging the social needs we are addressing and the related contributions of our dedicated staff.” added Claudette Fleming of Age Concern Bermuda.

“Our thanks also to BTC for highlighting the important work that takes place within these walls that reaches out to many facets of the broader island community.” concluded Neil Speight, of the Bermuda Cricket Board.

The BTC Tree Lighting Ceremony at Charities House took place yesterday [Dec 6] at 4:30pm.
