Meet Miss Sandys 2014: Lillian Lightbourn
In the second of a series of profiles of contestants, Bernews today spotlights Lillian Lightbourn, who is representing Sandys Parish in the Miss Bermuda Pageant, which will be held on July 6, 2014.
Miss Lightbourn, who has worked extensively in locales around the world, currently lives and works in New York as a fashion model.
When asked why she decided to enter the Miss Bermuda pageant, Miss Lightbourn said, “I decided to enter the pageant when I traveled to South Africa last year and realized it is not about me, but about everyone you influence along the way. My time there was inspiring and I felt myself grow up. I have so much to be thankful for from God and I really want to share those things with my country.”
When asked what has been the most enjoyable part of the process so far, Miss Lightbourn said, “The most enjoyable part of the process has been seeing everything come together. My church in New York, called the Rock, has been incredibly supportive; we picked out my gown together, business attire, shoes, everything.”
When asked if she was nervous or excited to get on stage for the pageant, Miss Lightbourn said, “I am not nervous at all, at least not right now. I have to talk in front of people all the time, but I know that I am never alone; God is always with me.”
When asked who has helped her the most to achieve this success along the way, Miss Lightbourn said, “My church family and God. I am so thankful for them. They are a big part of the reason why I am so successful in New York as a model. So for the pageant, they have been motivating, encouraging, helping with anything they could and, of course, praying for me along the way.”
When asked, should she win, what she planned to do with the exposure that being Miss Bermuda would give her, Miss Lightbourn said, “I plan to use it to create change in any way I can, influencing the youth and everyone around me like I do now, but in a more direct way. Also, I travel the world to model and I appear in magazines and commercials, but winning the title would mean I am representing Bermuda, therefore giving my country exposure as well.”
When asked, win or lose, what’s next for her after the pageant, Miss Lightbourn said, “My plans are to do more amazing things for God, travel, reach people all around the world, and modeling in Europe this year. I’m also starting to get into my creative directing career.”
When asked if there was anything else that she’d like to add, Miss Lightbourn said, “Being in the pageant has been a great experience. When you realize it is not about you but about the people behind you, that is when you take a chance on living life the best way possible. Follow your dreams and know that Jesus placed them in your heart to run after.
“Always remember anything you do is never about just you; even following your dreams is meant to touch other people’s success. This has helped me and I hope it will help others as well.”
The 2014 Miss Bermuda Pageant is scheduled to take place on July 6 at the Fairmont Southampton, where reigning queen Katherine Arnfield will crown her successor. Tickets for the event are available at Pulp & Circumstance at Washington Mall, Fabulous Fashions at Heron Bay Plaza, and online at bdatix.bm.

WOW! Very impressive! GORGEOUS from the inside out! Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31:30&31

Lily is such a wonderful person and I am backing her for the victory not solely upon her looks but her personality, tremendous faith in God and belief in herself. My only complaint is that you can’t see her freckles! Lol. Go Lil!!!
