Police Officer Charged With Sexual Assault

July 22, 2014

A 36-year-old man appeared in Magistrates Court today [July 22] charged with sexual assault of a person under 16.

The  man — who cannot be named for legal reasons but is understood to be a police officer — is accused of, while in a position of trust, having a person under the age of 16 to touch a certain part of his body with her mouth. He was also charged with having unlawful carnal knowledge with the girl. The offences were alleged to have occurred in November 2011 .

He was not required to enter a plea as the charges will be heard in Supreme Court. He was released on $5000 bail and is due to reappear in Court in August 2014.

Yesterday Detective Superintendent of Police James Howard said that a 36-year-old male police officer has been “suspended from duty following his arrest in connection to allegations of committing sexual offences.

“Because of the nature of the offences and the fact that there is an active investigation underway no further comment will be made at this time,” added Mr. Howard

    • PBanks says:

However this whole thing turns out, can that person ever be trusted in that position again?

There is no winner, however the case unfolds.

      • S says:

There can be a winner – us! That is, if this results in a push for greater oversight, responsibility and accountability for police employees! More likely though this will just be swept under the rug, the guy will be fired and no institutional change will occur.

    • VJ says:

      Innocent until proven guilty!
That’s every single person’s constitutional right.

  8. truth be told says:

IF this person is found Guilty, then he needs to have a very harsh sentence imposed on him.

Far too often we all see Police Officers,Custom Officers and other Civil Servants, including MP’s,Male and Female carrying on as if they are untouchable, they need to be reminded that they are being watched 24/7 on a small island like Bermuda.

  9. Smh says:

Police boy dem gangster babies up westgate gunna tear you a new ****** kid!!! Lololol

  10. BermudaGirl says:

What a dirtbag! I guess he thought he was above the law. A cop would not be arrested “lightly”. There must be a LOT of evidence. Now I have to wonder if other officers looked the other way or were otherwise involved.
