Premier Meets Bermuda Businesses In Cayman

July 17, 2014

Earlier this week Premier Michael Dunkley paid a courtesy visit to Bermuda companies based in Cayman.

A spokesperson said, “The Premier is currently in Cayman participating in the UK Overseas Territories [OT] Heads of Government Pre-Joint Ministerial Council Meeting. Yesterday, Premier Dunkley stopped in at Cayman based Butterfield Bank, Conyers, Dill and Pearman [CD&P] and law firm Appleby and met with each of the heads of the businesses.”

During the visits, Premier Dunkley discussed common interests, which afforded the Premier an opportunity to have an understanding of how the entities operate as a Bermuda company oversees.

“As a note, Appleby and CD&P are considered to be two leading global firms. In fact, CD&P bested seven firms recently to be named Offshore Law Firm of the Year by Chambers & Partners, publisher of the world’s foremost guides to the legal profession. Cayman based Butterfield provides a range of community banking services in the region,” said a spokesperson.

  1. Own Goal says:

Why did none of his Special Advisors tell Premier Dunkley that Appleby is a global law firm with a branch in Bermuda but headquarters in Jersey.

Less clear is the ownership of NTB which as a public listed company with two large corporate shareholders, is no longer owned by a few Bermuda families.

Some own goals here I’m afraid and straying off topic of the 2,000 jobs we need here in Bermuda, not the Cayman Islands

    • Conservative says:

      Own Goal,

why don’t you go and march in your green t-shirt again and pretend to be standing strong for the Bermudians you tell us you represent. Cant believe you would turn our Premiers trip into cheap point scoring, so what if these two companies are no longer locally owned, they were created by Bermudians thats all that matters

try sending a blog on where the missing $800,000,000 is that your friends and family spent

      • Maddog says:

White supremacy is the belief, or promotion of the belief, that white people are superior to people of other racial backgrounds and that therefore whites should politically, economically and socially dominate non-whites. The term is also typically used to describe a political ideology that perpetuates and maintains the social, political, historical and/or industrial dominance of whites.[1] Different forms of white supremacy have different conceptions of who is considered white, and different white supremacists identify various racial and cultural groups as their primary enemy.

        • Joonya says:

You are mad… get help man.. serz.

        • Conservative says:

          Dear Maddog,

I must say you truly live up to your pseudo name with the post above as it is completely even remotely related to the article or Premier Dunkley’s trip to Grand Cayman.

You people are obsessed with getting back into office to wreck whats left of pre-1998 Great Bermuda, no wonder people sold up before you lot completely destroyed their valuation to zero minus – $2 Billion

thank heavens for asset diversification and another passport, hopefully you are on the stop list with your herbal tea in hand totally continually oblivious so I won’t have to run into you at Macy’s after this all collapses.

          • Maddog says:

Do you know that when you use YOU PEOPLE in that context it is a RASICT REMARK!!

            • serengeti says:

Was your comment at 9.20am a ‘RASICT REMARK’ as well?

              • Maddog says:

Hey Serengeti, Call the dictionary RASICT THATS WERE IT CAME FROM AND WHITE PEOPLE WROTE IT!!!!!!

            • enough says:

and I suppose “Our People” isn’t when it comes out of the mouth of Mr. Bean

            • Hurricane says:

@ Maddog, the context in which this person used “you people” is definitely not racist. They were simply saying that PLP and all it’s supporters are obsessed with getting back in office. Nothing racial there.

          • mixitup says:

Not only that Maddog, but the perception that pre-1998 Bermuda was ‘GREAT’ Great for who Conservative? Explain?

        • js says:

          predictable response

          yet not without reason

      • Keep Calm says:

        Conservative stop being an A$$!

Please tell me why is it that every time someone disagrees with the OBA, one is labeled as being affiliated with the PLP. People voice their concerns all the time for both parties. Did you ever think why did the Premier have to take a photo to display he visited these companies. Is it going to help create more jobs? NO! All I see is more photo op. Also this goes for the rest of you stop calling the people kool aid drinkers. This choice of words does not help the OBA cause. By that march we all witness I was shocked to see so much support for something that happened 90 years ago.

One needs to tread very carefully or this government that I voted for will see 1 term. Many of the blue collar PLP supporters don’t have access to computers, so if you think likes or dislikes mean anything, think again. Right now the OBA is in panic mode. They already know they have to convince the black community that causes swing votes. In reality they don’t have to worry about the white community because even when they switch names we vote for them and that’s a fact.

        • enough says:

there was so much support because they think the the PLP is going to get money back for them just like they romised them cheap housing back in their day

        • Kunta says:

What people fail to realize is that SOME white people have so much hate against Black progress and Blacks in position, just remember it wasn’t that long ago that they had the green light to lynch, burn and murder so now they have to resort to name calling and slander !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Kunta says:

      Racking up air miles !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Triangle Drifter says:

I guess is that you were not around for Jennifer Smith or DREB when they were Premier. Lets not forget going to watch a space shuttle leave or PLP Ministers & the entourage being everywhere but in Bermuda.

Were you someplace else at the time or do you have a very selective memory?

        • Kunta says:

          I have selective memory.
          LMFAO

          • Cleancut says:

Kunta the slave wouldn’t have used such language. But that’s just the race card in your little deck isn’t it?

    • Cleancut says:

How many Bermudians do these companies hire Bozo?

  2. somuchless says:

Dunk. What happened to the Bermuda shorts? Left them at home?

  3. Triangle Drifter says:

Try to be honest with yourselves PLP followers, who do you think will get the respect needed to promote Bermuda in the business world, a successful businesssman in his own right ot the operator of s smalltime gambling parlour?

For once take race out of the picture & deal with pure facts of the business world.

I was also wondering what happened to the Bermuda shorts? They do add style & uniqueness.

    • JustAskin2 says:

That photo was nothing but a show of cronyism. If you’re suggesting that we have to settle for cronyism or racial favoritism to get ahead, I’ll have none of it!

      • Triangle Drifter says:

Details please. How does that pic show cronyism? I see our Premier standing with various business guys.

        What do you see?

  4. Marge says:

There is so much hate and anger on this Island…when are we going to grow up ?
